What the hell do you do in the Army to get issued an M4A1?

Hi, I didn't mean to be a d1ck. Your post seemed just pretty casual so I thought you might not have clue what you were talking about. I had to ask aviation engineer to get a definite answer. It seems that we both were right.
First I have to clarify that I was talking about beehive type dimpling not some random gunsmith dimpling.
Second what he mentioned and what I should have realized also was that barrels that are equal in weight will benefit from shaping. Not all forces are equal! Think I-beam that has holes cut into middle section. Quite common in airframes.

Anyway, sorry that my answer took so long -> I didn't have GOOD picture from my side by side shotty or Glock 17 so I couldn't post this and I'm too lazy to take pictures if I'm not going to range...
