Hey pal, it hasn't been an easy ride! I've practically lived in a gym through 2012. Perhaps averaging around 6-8 hours a week? I think alot of the muscle-growth has been through lifting, I never thought I could lift due to my slim frame however with help from my bro before he joined the Marines he helped get me going, when I first hit the Bench I couldnt lift past 60kg? I hit 100 afew weeks ago which ultimately was my goal. That and everyday I will destroy my abs to oblivion hah, I cut so much food out it was unreal...I genuinely havent brought a pizza or ate a burger/Kebab in about 6 months, hard at first but I soon got used to it.

How old are you mate? I take it not too old to get fitter than you've ever been :)

Yes...but being lighter alone is not an advancement IMO. If we are talking M4 here, I don't even want mine any lighter. When I had a SAW...yeah that could be lighter for sure ;)
Also a big chunk of its savings is in polymer cased ammo. I think we have made major advances in rifles in the last 100+ years but ammo remains insignificantly changed by comparison.

Has it been five years already? I hate to break it to you brother, but I no longer have my wood shop or tools. But I'm intrigued and feel compelled to ask: What kind of gig do you work to be able to afford a custom-built resolute desk? You must be making some major bank.
