Meh dude I always wanted to go USMC and lately like 99% of the motivation to do so is totally gone. I thought for sure I wanted to be a pilot but at the start of senior year I was like "Ehhh **** it all I'll decide later."

I don't share 100% of your view on the subject. De Gaulle was not, to my taste, a very good tactician indeed
He was however a political animal that had a vision of the country and hold it
The removal from the integrated command of NATO allowed us to develop our own nuke capability (and all side technologies like Ariane launchers)
As well as to maintain our defense industry to a pretty efficient level up to the 90s (including air force, naval and land assets)

As i said some mistakes were done on both sides and we cannot re-writte history. But at least we have gone over that part and are working again together

Now concerning the equipment i agree with you but it has always been like that in French Army : the small comfort equipment is always the fifth wheel of the car....even if it gets better thanks to OPEX like afghanistan and the emergency procurement procedure as well as "achat sur étagère"
