The rest of "the West's" pop culture is so heavily US dominated through TV series, shows and movies that we feel like paying attention. Damn, some Euros may even know more about US history than about their own country's ! Also, the fact the USA has been a major political and military force through the 20th century and early 21st. How can we ignore that ?

What I'd like is if Americans would also look more interested in the rest of the world. I hate this ignorant behaviour of "I'm American, I don't need to know about your country". I've heard this. This Frothy Mix of Fecal Matter has really gotten me upset this morning. He is the embodiement of the Ugly American/Christo-fascist character. I mean Holland is a great country and the US can learn a lot from it. At least Holand is not Third World in places like America. It's all about nothing really. Despite Rick Santorum I think I speak for most worldy Dutchmen if I say we highly prefer good relationships with the USA no matter whether they have a Democrat or Republican government. We highly prefer it above any other potential superpower. If we think of differences between the Dutch and the USA, think about the Dutch and the Russians, Dutch and Chinese or Dutch and Iranians :-|

Similarily, the idea of the US turning its back on Europe in favor of third world countries because they are more socially conservative is just bizarre.

I'd hardly consider people like Chavez, Kirchener(although Peronism is neither right or left) and Morales as conservative in the way the US typically views conservatism(which is rather different from how the rest of the world defines it). I agree the relationship with the US is important, we remain significant economic partners, but statements like Santorum's arent doing it any good..
