Is it worth for Iraq to revive production line for K1A1? The line has been stopped in 2010 or 2011. Why not just go for K2. Iraqi demand for K2 can decrease the price per unit. Only 397 K2 are projected to manufacture.

Korea has no K1 series stored in inventory. Even ROKA and ROKMC are short on K1 (1,027 K1 & 484 K1A1), which force them to still use M48 series. If you want K1A1 you gotta order the new one.
Given that the production line has been closed, I would estimate 5 to 6 million per unit with upgrades included.

ROK army and the maker of the tank wanted AC installed but [COLOR=#000000][FONT=arial]Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) denied the request, mostly due to funding issue. It is still a conscription army... Maintaining 600,000 men-strong army and navy/airforce with relatively modern equipment is expensive. But in 2007, S Korea had a president who was busy handing over $$$ to N Korea in bundles (true story).

Think K2 would be too expensive for Iraq. How about sell used K1A1 and use the $ to build more K2 for use by S Korea? will see...

Buying a new K1A1 will get you M48 for freeeeee sounds better bargain to me. ROKA will never give up K1 in its hand.

IICR couple years ago there was an offer from the HA to donate 300-ish M60 to IqArmy, and it's turned down for some reason. [/FONT]Not sure if the K1M1 is the best choice for our ground forces, but I'm confident the IqMoD will buy the right tank for the army needs. Defence envoy visited Moscow few weeks ago to discuss armoured vehicles & air-defence system purchases. with $7bn in hand for military spending in 2012 budget, they will find good suitable alternative to M1A1.

It is strange. As Kadrun said, production line of K1 and K1A1 is allready closed, South Korea itself is short on these tanks. These tanks were never designed as "universal", but tailored to the South Korean needs, funding capabilities of R&D program (in fact K1 was designed in USA by GDLS, manufacturer of M1 series). And I do not see any advantage of K1 or K1A1 over Iraqi Army M1A1M with all these new electronic goodies put there that are also used in ARNG M1A1SA's (besides Heavy Armor Package that is put only in US Armed Forces M1's). The ondly advantage of K1/K1A1 is more fuel efficent engine and CIV/CITV for TC.
If Iraq want more new tanks, they can make an order in US for modernization of their M1A1's in to M1A2 standard with SEP electronics and mechanical components package. US can probably even sold them more M1A1's after repair and modernization process from their stocks.
Iraq also have T-72M/T-72M1 in service, so can order modernization for them in Russia, Ukraine or Poland. I do not know what Russians and Ukrainians can offer at that time, but my country can offer full modernization to PT-91Ex standard with additional T-72M1's from our stocks modernized to this standard, additional to this, Bumar can offer WZT-3 or WZT-4 ARV's and other T-72 based support vehicles. It would be good to know what can Russians and Ukrainians to offer at this time to be fair.
Or Iraq can seek other offers, India with their Arjun perhaps, maybe some European country that is reducing it's military, although besides a fact that some people are deluding theirselves, west europe do not have at this time capability to fully restore it's capability to manufacture MBT's... at least it would not be cheap and would rise price of purchased machines.

Honestly Ukraine should have plenty of capable T-72's sitting in a warehouse somewhere that can be bought cheaply. It'll be enough to deal with Iran and Syria, the only 2 conceivable threats to Iraq right now. Iraqi armor isn't gonna be going up against Merkava's or Saudi M1A2's/Leopard 2's

A lot of them were sold to Ethiopia recently so they may not have the quantity Iraq requires.They could buy some new build T-84s which would be a great choice.Cheaper than western tanks and very capable.

Barely,Iran and Syria have massive non monkey model T-72 fleets and Syria even has a sizeable T-80 fleet.
