Bloody hell did I spot a sten gun being handed in! As a Brit I don't wish to comment on American internal politics, but that amount of weapons handed in must be a positive step.

Andy - These "Buy Back Programs" are usually older people turning in weapons they no longer need/use or people that might have Inherited a firearm from a family member and are not avid shooters or hunters. These programs mean well but honestly if these pictures are all the guns that got turned in, 3 Ar-15's and maybe 3-4 ak47/sks our streets are not that much cleaner. I know the state in which I'm from if they tried this it would be a VERY slow day and I'm not from Texas. Truly surprised to even see that someone turned in there Ar-15's in a country were you cannot find one at your local gun shop.

I don't know what's more criminal, simply abiding by the CONSTITUTIONAL right to keep and bear firearms. Or government sponsored programs that specifically [U]disarm and [B]RIP OFF[/B][/U] the general [ignorant] populous.

As Kceffect05 said, most of the people that jump on these programs are NOT your average firearm owner. Probably inherited them, or even worse I could see a family member 'taking initiative' and jumping on this bandwagon; maybe some guy's wife while he's out at work or something. "Honey while you were out..." Just hard to believe someone with any level of intellect, especially with the gun-market right now would consider trading an AR-15 for a $100-200 food stamp. Not trying to be cliche, but it seems to me that once again the government truly cares NOTHING for the liberties of their own people, they prey on 'our' fear and ignorance.

Yeas, I did notice that to. Amazing some of those are still around. I would expect only with collectors. Isn't the sten the weapon that liked to discharge when dropped on the but? Although I am sure it is/was not the only gun to suffer from that.

First, your gov't has not disarmed you using this program. You have disarmed yourself when you hand your weapon in [B]voluntarily[/B].

Second, these programs give those who want a $100/200 food card more than they want a firearm. So, it provides people with a safe and legal opportunity to get rid of firearms they probably won't take to the range or otherwise use in the first place. This program proves that there are people out there who would rather have $100/200 in food than a firearm, and if they really need that $100 for food then they probably shouldn't have bought a $400ish rifle in the first place.

Third, the people handing-in firearms are probably not gun enthusiasts like us MPeeners, so they might not have had these weapons securely stored, so these guns will not be stolen from (perhaps) negligent owners.

First off, "AR-15 clone with M16 parts" doesn't make sense since the M16 itself is an AR-15.
