Indonesian Tactical Truck

The prototype of the first indigenously developed 4 x 4 tactical truck has recently been rolled out and will soon be joined by another five test prototypes. Known as the PT44 it was developed by Pacific Technology under an order placed by the Indonesian Department of Defence in 2003 with a view to replacing part of its ageing vehicles. The PT44 features a neat double wishbone/double coil independent suspension on all four corners, offering a full stroke of 300 mm (150 mm up/down). The only major items that do not appear to be of indigenous origin are the engine (Steyr), the six-ratio gearbox (ZF), the cab (Leyland) and the transfer case (Romani). It has a no-preparation fording capability of 80 cm, while central tyre inflation and anti-locking braking are offered on option.
The six prototypes are to undergo full testing throughout 2006 and a first order for an annual production of 50 vehicles is expected in 2007.
