Very interesting article Rahlgd, something that a lot of people fail to see. Calderon actually has done a lot, and his predecessors I might add, but the war on the cartels seems to eclipse it all. One thing I might add that is also a big change is that since they came to power they made it way easier for Mexicans to own their own homes, making credit more accessible. Thanks for the read.

Yeah, I know something close to a million homes were purchased last year alone, thats no small feat. I was intially a bit worried that Mexico was going to be walking into a China style overbuilding problem with a lack of people being able to actually afford to live in new houses especislly with all these new appartment towers being built in the larger cities or all those urban developments and gated communities but they all seem to be fully populated fairly quickly. Mexico just has to careful not to become overly dependent on credit and needs to keep a close eye on who the banks are lending to to avoid what happened with the US.

In the State of Mexico, 3 rival gangs are fighting for territory.



factions of La Familia Michoacana (The Michoacan Family), Cartel del Centro (Center Cartel), & La Mano Con Ojos (The Hand with Eyes) are all fighting for control of the state says Attorney General Alfredo Castillo. The attorney general informed has specified which gang is located; La Mano Con Ojos are established in Huixquilucan and Naucalpan, Atizapán and Izcalli belong to Cartel del Centro, and Toluca valley belong to La Familia. The gangs are attributed to many executions including decapitating there victims. 2 of these gangs have relations with The Beltran Leyva Cartel including with Gerardo Álvarez Vázquez aka El Indio "The Indian"

Lucio Reyes Senteno aka "El Perro" (The Dog), member of the Center Cartel is accused of the murder of 19 people which include rival gang members and simply people who refused to work for him, attorney state general Alfredo Castillo. The Center Cartel are fighting a rival gang called "La Mano Con Ojos" (The Hand with Eyes) for control of drug distrubution & arms trafficking in the valley of mexico.
