I'm sure you have a phone call inbound from Sedena to put you in charge of new (or old) military aquisition of armas Bélicas. Make sure to stay close to your telephone .

The only proposal which would make sense is the CV90120 which the marines were intersted in. No, offense but all of the others proposals are compltely retarded and would actually be a step backwards. They are outdated and like Jangles said, almost none of them are in production and many of what you are saying Mexico should buy are things that Mexico retired 30 years ago. Why Gazelles? They won't be of any help. F5's are no longer in production either and I think all the T33 are not even structurally safe to fly anymore. A big part of why Mexico even bought any MD's was because they are built in Mexico and they aren't being used much because they are not armored and can't stand up to the 50.cal's and the heavier stuff that the narco's have that's why they usually fall back to using Blackhawks and Mil's when helo's are needed.

Not trying to be rude to Tankfan
Please don't spam the thread with random suggestions, wants, and needs. First you should read from about page 200 and see what we have talked, and what we with the best of our knowledge; determined would best fit the needs of Mexico. Most of the vehicles you mentioned were obsolete only about a decade after their release. Please do some research prior to posting.

Mexico dosen't need large numbers of Main Battle Tanks. It is unlikely that any of Mexico's neighbors would attack the country with armored forces. Mexico's problem for the immediate future is conflict with narco forces which have capabilities bordering on an insurgency. Mexico would do better to invest in light armor capabilities in the form of APC's, armored cars and the like. Off the cuff, I would recommend a mixed fleet of tracked and wheeled armored fighting vehicles, with more wheeled than tracked. Mexico needs well-armed and trained infantry formations. The younger part of the officer corps should be given extensive training in both theory and the practical aspects of counterinsurgency.

The two biggest things that the Mexican military needs to do is increase the budget up to $40-$50 billion which is definitely needed for troops and equipment. Second thing is that the Mexican Air Force needs to be seperated from SEDENA and become an independent branch like the Mexican Navy. That would be a "win win" for both the Mexican Army and Mexican Air Force which would give them 50/50 on each service branch instead of 90/10 when they are part of SEDENA. That to me is what the Mexican government and military needs to do.

http://forosdemexico.com/showthread.php?t=22659 sedena has been spending billions of pesos a year combating drug traficking, I think that equates to a couple billion dollars a year.

And on the subject of Mexico with modern battle tanks, I would love for it to be true. We can't expect to never be invaded, that is being overly optmisitc and naive. We are not "too poor" to own tanks and all other needs are being covered. Heavy armored vehicles will be needed as we currently face a dark and uncertain future in the world, So it is best to prepare for the worst.

Actually, I was talking about the annual budget which is around $5-$6 billion which is bloody shame. The annual budget should be around $40-$50 billion instead.

I agree a nation like ours with over one hundred and fifteen million citizens and billions of barrels of untapped oil resources and an unknow amount of recently discovered natural gas deposits should have, and must have an immense annual budget to defend all that is our. we cannot simply afford to leave our future in the hands of fate.

Edit: I hope this thread does not turn into pure discussion with the abscense of image posting members.

Nonetheless it's been interesting as I've gotten some good insight into the wants and needs of the Mexican military. I just dug up a few pictures I took back in 2009 of the Mexican armed forces. They're not great as I took them out of opportunity but I'll post them up as soon as I get the chance.
