Strange Land Markings in the Nevada Desert - made by the Military?

In the middle of the Navada desert, miles from anywhere, strange land markings and structures litter the land, probably a old weapons testing field or something more covert. Check out the land markings, from large parallel lines in the sand, viewable from space, to a pentagram marked out on the ground to formations that look like buried aircraft, all in the middle of nowhere.

I am guessing they were made for military target practice, but some of the stuff just looks strange:

    Nothing mysterious.

It is part of the Tonopah Test Range. Tonopah AFB (home of the early F-117s) could be seen upper North/Eath.

The wrecks are ground targets for cluster bombs (old A-7s and F-111?) and the mysterious buildings looks like target concrete walls build to test penetration force by various smart bombs and missiles.

Check Edwards AFB and the dry lake, where the huge "compass" is drawn on the ground. This "aiming" sign looks very similar.

Last time I checked, a pentagram had five points, not six. That would be a hexagram.

It just looks like a regular bombing range like uncle cho said, you see alot of pics of bombing ranges with different shapes and markers on them, Its apparently to help differentiate between different targets and target areas.
Imagine trying to work out which set of targets are yours in a big ass bombing range littered with vehicle and tank bodies etc. the large shapes or patterens give the pilots/bombardier and commanders a reference point for a particular target area or target indication.

those buildings just look like conex containers stacked up to look like a building, a real easy and cheap way to build a life sized target

The "david star" was actually the standard Russian military setup for a Surface to Air Missile battery. I believe it was the SA2, but I'm not sure. There were six launchers in this setup. So it's not that strange that it ended up on some training base in the US.

There are a few gigantic targets out there too, like huge dartboards. Very cool stuff.

I think it was the SA-2 too, six launchers surrounding the radar in the centre. I've got a picture of an SA-2 launch taken from an Israeli plane in a book and the layout seems very similar to the Star of David seen here.

Cool pics, but you're not going to be able to see those lines from space (barring satellite photography, of course).

Frost is right. And wether it is in North America or over sea's, the pattern would be beneficial on a range to test how different munitions and tactics would neutralize such target's.

Most of UFO stories were IMHO urban legends made by military officials to turn aside attention from top secret military projects and open air tests...
