At the recent graduation ceremony for the 114th class of Naval Officers, Ensign (Navy Second Lieutenant rank) Aviv Florian and thirty of his fellow course graduates received their Naval Officers' pins. Sixty years prior to the completion of their course, in 1948, Aviv's grandfather, Commander (Res.) Yedidiya Tzafrir completed the first naval officers' course. While the technological means have changed and become more sophisticated with time, the vision, the motivation, and the sea remain as they were.
The prestigious Naval Officers' course lasts two years and three months, during which cadets are trained in commanding the various naval vessels in the Israel Navy fleet. In addition, the cadets complete bachelor degrees studies in various subjects, among them oceanography and business management, at Haifa University.
