    Memorial at Iranian Town of Susangerd in Southern Khuzestan province. Dedicated to great resistance shown by towns defenders to Iraq invasion in 1980 who even when besieged on 3 sides, and almost fallen into complete control of Iraqi Army on couple occasions, the resistance of towns few defenders was to continue to become a thorn into Iraqi Army by blocking the route to Ahwaz (Strategic target and provincial capital of Khuzestan province), until reinforcement could come to towns rescue.

    a horrible war - forgotten by many - yet it has intriqued me since I was little - two modern armies fighting a prolonged battle sometimes using WW1 style tactics - amazing. Excellent thread - photos of post/pre-combat are hard to find - please post what you have !

    Would Nazi Germany when it was at its best, win over Iran in that war? With Iran having their stuff they had in the war of 1980!
    I think Nazi Germany would have won, Blitzkrieg!!! And lets say Iraq was Nazi Germany, so there would be no supply problems?

    Great thread, I would love to see pics from the battlefields today, to see how much remains in form of old trenches, debris and relics. Remember Argyll writing of it a while ago.
