    MEXICAN ARMY

Panhard ERC-90 LYNX six-wheeled light tank. It is mobile, amphibious and NBC proof.
It was used by the Iraqi army in the succession of wars which took place there, and proved very useful for the French Army in urban conditions during the Siege of Sarajevo. and also use by the French in the first invasion to Iraq.

French Panhard ERC 90 armored light tank, moves across the desert as part of a display of Allied armor during Operation Desert Shield.

It's the Armoured SX series truck............VERY choice piece of kit!

    See more info here..........

    http://www.militarytrucks.man-mn.com...rmoured_SX.jsp

The Brits have just ordered a few thousand MAN trucks but mostly in the HX series, cheaper 'cos they have some COTS gear, BUT still highly capable.................details here...........

    http://www.militarytrucks.man-mn.com...uck_System.jsp

The normal SX series is here.............

    http://www.militarytrucks.man-mn.com...uck_System.jsp

From the intial UK batches, all of the trucks are HX series apart from the Breakdown/Recovery 8x8's which are SX. I'm not sure what the split is for the latest, second batch order.

The UK has almost certainly more vehicles to order to cover the Medium Mobility and Improved Mobility vehicles.

The UK doesn't use the Armoured SX yet but has an add-on kit which produces a very nice applique armoured cab called the Modular Armoured Cab (MAC). This has Level 2 protection against assault rifle fire and level 1 against Mines, NOT super duper but more than adequate against most scenarios. The applique armour can be easily fitted by two men.

The Armoured SX has what is called the Integrated Armour Cabin (IAC) and is a complete replacement cab rather than an applique armour one.
Protection is far higher being level 3 for rifle/MG fire and level 3b for Mines.

The MAN trucks remain VERY strong contenders for the Australian Project Overlander programme which will replace ALL of our current vehicle fleet over the next 10 years or so.............announcement due first/second quarter 2007 I think.

A very good MAN borchure for both these vehicles is here.........

    AF-40-8 "Al Fahd"

Whatever happened with the Saudi "Al Fahd"? Did it ever enter service? The Saudis developed several versions, inlcuding a 25mm IFV, a recoilless gun carrier, a recce vehicle and a mortar platform.

Seriously speaking though. I find it rather odd when people try to defend a doctrine that's been made up by rogue politicians to justify defence cuts.

Wheels are great for cruising down a highway, but suck big time in snow, mud, rubble etc. A balanced force will continue to be a necessity.

And doesn't the fact that Belgium is the sole country in Europe to give up it's MBT and AT capability make you want to reconsider?
Belgium has one the lowest defence investment budget of Nato. There is simply no money to buy enough wheeled vehicles for the entire army let alone buy new tracked vehicles or to update older ones.

But you do have money to spend on totally useless expensive equipment such as the 90mm MGS?

90MM is good enough to destroy 95% of all military vehicles world-wide and 99% of vehicles Belgian army in most scenarios will ever be confronted with. It can blow holes in the wall, destroy fox-holes, drop smoke etc.... I would not call it "useless". CT-CV 105MM would have been a better choice but extra weight of turret/gun would probably have meant lighter armour/mobility. So do you want firepower for scenario's that are very unlikely or protection/mobility for scenario's that are likely.

    M-520 Old Work Horse.

The U.S. Army M520 GOER was an 8-Ton cargo carrier, designated an all-terrain, all-weather amphibious cargo vehicle.the whole front cab of the truck turned, not the wheels. There still serving in the Mexican Army as a supply truck.

This one os NOT the M-520 , BUT is a cool picture showing some hummers and some panhard vehicules.
