Taurus Pt 1911 - Any Pros - Cons?

With tax season coming up, I was thinking of purchasing a 1911 or Glock in .40, preferably in G23, but my wife got me a S.W.A.T magazine and low and behold this beauty was on the second page and with a shocking price, so I had to ask you guys who own one or who have handled one what you think and if it is worth more than $600 or just an economical version of the 1911.

My 2 cents, buy the Glock. The low quality of Taurus has never impressed me. Glock makes the most reliable, durable, pistol out there. If you want a 1911 look at Kimber, or Springfield. You should be able to find something in your price range and the quality will be far superior.

Taurus 1911s aren't that bad quality. A few have gritty triggers but they can be sorted out, but they are built on imbel frames. They are just built down the road from were Springfield imports 99% of their 1911s from. Taurus have really cleaned their act up over the past decade.

I love my .38spl Taurus, the quality may not be comparable to a SIG but it cost half the price.

Ive shot one MJ, and im very impressed, infact im buying one in the spring when they release the version with the tac rail. All in all the gun possess more features that you cant get on any other 1911 for a fraction of the price. My best friend has the gold cup colt 1911 and i tell you. Its every bit as accurate and comfortable. Taurus scored with this. here's a list of what value it posesses. for half the cost.

I've only shot a couple of Taurus handguns, but felt their quality was good, for the price.
And the thing about a 1911A1 is that you can replace parts easily.

I do not have personal experience with one but read on many forums good things about it. If I was looking for 1911 then I would definitely give it a serious consideration. They are custom fitted and have features that would cost over 2K on simmilar 1911.
Who knows I might get one sooner or later.

i haven't fired one, i've been window shopping for the last month, everytime i look at my favorite gunshops 1911 cabinet i pick the Taurus PT1911 up first. Lowest i've seen one go for was 475 brand new, most expensive was 600 bucks(Freakin bellevue,WA). It has all the bells and whistles of a kimber for half the price almost.

Only problem i heard of was the finish wears of pretty quickly only a few guns though.

that'd work too lol. there are some pretty crazy mods of GI's out there, beavertails, ambi-thumbsafetys, skeleton triggers. i just don't know if i could ruin a GI like that. I would do that to a mil-spec. a local gunshop has a pretty pimped out Mil-Spec with Wilson Combat parts goin for the same price as the PT1911. only thing is i don't like the Pachmayr grips, i'm a Hogue fan.

    i'm on self imposed 2 month ban from buying anymore guns. i need a 3rd 1911, an enfield, a uberti, a remington 700, a m1 carbine,etc, etc.

    still those pt1911's are cool.

Same here that's why I don't go to the gun store alot. Thank god I got a good job. I almost got a Kimber from this guy a couple of weeks back but he got cold feet. It was a Custom II he was gonna sell to me for $500. The thing was a safe queen too.

I have cocobolo grips on both of my SA. Sexy and it works. Just remember that SA has a .220 radius when it comes to beavertail.

I'm a bit of a troll on boards but what I keep seeing coming up is peoples comment about it's finish. Also I think I read on THR that the demand for them has been so great that Taurus is bumping up the msrp a little. So if you are going to get it do it quick.

I agree to both. Just be sure to get good training to enhance your safety and maximize your effectiveness. Invest in a .22 caliber conversion kit as well. You can practice your shooting for pennies.
