Yeah that picture was taken from an edition of Sainik Samachar, a publication from the Indian Defense Ministry. It shows a Paracdo crosstraining with an M-4

From the Sainik Samachar Website itself:

Thanks for the info. I also caught a false pic earlier. BTW the SSG also use M4s.

If you are descending on rappel, or are stalled and locked in directly above a window or a balcony and waiting for the breach call so you can drop in, the last thing you want is your rope dangling below you to give yourself away.
I have never seen the style of rope deployment bag that those operators in that image were using before (they look like something my Mom knitted). I have used a much smaller style of leg bag myself before, and it attached to the outside of the lower leg rather than the thigh. It only held something like 30 or 40 feet of rope however, which would limit the length of descent you could pull off.
As I said in my reply earlier they're actually old T-10/MC1-1 parachute deploymet bags. The loops that you see are rigging line/shroud line stow loops and the bags line protector flap is used to attach the bag to the troopers belt.

they're all of varying age, though you can see in the group photo here that even though AUGs and M4s are availible, some guys still use the AK:

newer photos do show fewer AKs in use though.

As for sniper rifles, AFAIK they use Steyr SSG and SVDs, I've read also PSG1 (not sure, but I know India has them) and there are Barrett M82A1s knocking about too I think (anti-narcotic teams that SSG helped train definitely have them)

They use mainly the Chinese varient of the Ak-47 and the Mp-5.This picture is of the US troops training a unit and they lend them there M-4's and M-16's.The Steyr AUG was bought as a test batch and no follow on order was ever placed.

MP5s are not chinese, they are licenced copys made by Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF). I'm also fairly sure M4s (often outfitted with RIS/RAS and Eotech 512/552) are in the armoury as well, not just lent by US troops, and evidence of this can be seen in other pics.
The M4s might be chinese copys (see link below), but have nothing solid to back this up.

No m-16's only M-4's and they were all bought. The AUG was not a test bunch. They were bought under the cover that they were bieng purchased for the ASF (airport security force). ASF use it too but a good lot went to the SSG. Don't make up stories.
