I joined a few months after I turned 17. I'm a senior now and I'm shipping out in May. While I don't have any military experience, I think I can help a tad bit. The DEP is to get you prepared physically and mentally before Recruit Training. When you go to MEPS make sure everything you WANT IS ON THAT CONTRACT. DON'T get screwed over. If your job is not what you want and you already signed it I belive you can get your recruiter to change it for you. As for the DEP, you are automatically part of it and you have 1 to 2 Poolee Funtions a month. If you are dead serious and have thought through it and talked to your parents then I'de say give it a go. I personally have always wanted to be a Marine and no one in my family has ever been in the military.

I'm not a recruiter, but I used to be one of the go to guys here for prospective Marines. I'm back in the States now, so anyone interested in the straight dope on the Corps, I'll answer any PMed questions to the best of my ability and memory.

Hit the track. Do pullups and pushups.

Initial Entry standards do not require you to be an Olympic-class athlete.
