    congrats TheHatta, i hope things turn out well for you. you cant go wrong with more PT.

    ......................................

    Its confirmed, the Marines are no longer takig any aviation contracts for a long long time. However, they do have slots availiable for Naval Flight Officers ( the guy in the back seat of the Prowlers and Hornets, dealing in electronics).

    So now ive got to decide whether i want to compete for the NFO route, or to compete for contracts in the Combat Arms contracts. lots to think about., which leads me to a couple of questions...

    Should i take the NFO route, is it possible for me to make a lateral move to the pilot seat later on in my commission? If so, how long does it take?(considering the flight training NFO's recieve)

    2nd question, regarding TBS, how does an Officer be competitive for the top 1% of the class? Obviously PT till i get a perfect/(near perfect) score would be one of them. But is everything im graded by leard at TBS? or, can i train/study anything now that'll give me an edge over the next guy.

    Submitted my admissions application to USAFA. Once my ACT scores get sent to them, hopefully I will be accepted for the next part of the journey!

    Well, I graduated from BMQ yesterday, and I'm now in Kingston on PAT. LCIS tech, though I'm going to try to switch to Comm Research.

    CFLRS was hard, but a ****load of fun. My platoon was rock solid, and we had killer instructors.

    Congratulations on the start of your military career! By the way, what's a BMQ, PAT, LCIS, CFLRS? It appears you speak an acrimonious language.

    My bad, I thought we all have to use the right lingo from now on.
    BMQ = Basic Military Qualification aka boot camp
    PAT = Personnel Awaiting Training
    LCIS = Land Communications and Infomation Systems technician aka my trade
    CFLRS = boot camp school

    Unfortuately, rumor has it I will have quite a few months to wait before my trade course starts.

    Alright guys and gals I need some help. For the last 4 months I havent had any sleep, because I have a decision to make. A little about me. I will be 19 in May, haven't gone to college, don't have a job, basically just work out each day to stay in shape and have fun. Now my "decision" is pretty much at a 50/50 stand right now. I'm like on a tight rope perfectly balanced, not knowing which side to take. I want to do 1 of 2 things. 1: join the military or 2: join the national guard to go to college and live a "normal" life. As of now, I really want to either live my life on the edge, or just have a normal life. I can't decide. I want to push my physical limits and try out for a SF group (depending on which branch). I looked into the Navy Seals heavily. I even signed all my papers at the recruiters office. On my other hand, I keep saying how much I will want to just live a normal, relaxing life. Go to college, meet a nice girl, graduate and get a job.

    This decision has been tearing me apart. I would LOVE to go to Afghanistan and do some crazy stuff. Living on the edge in dangerous situations seems FUN to me. I have a hard head and high motivation. You tell me I can't ever do a SF, I tell you your wrong. I would consider myself very athletic (even though my Navy recruiter said if I went to MEPS and made the DEP I would train with them at the gym for 5-6 months to prove myself). The only problem is the fact that I see myself slipping away from reality, losing friends, missing out on fun college memories others would have. At the same time, I see myself going to college and then living a boring life with some good money.

    Of course this is a military forum, so I'm sure I will hear a lot of bias info. I have had people tell me to just join, but if I join and figure out "hey, Military life isnt for me, then I'm not gonna be a happy camper for a while". Worst case scenario I would be overseas for a while (assuming I joined army). I would love to hear from ANYONE, especially from anyone who is in any sort of Special Forces (if any on this forum).

    I would advise you to join the reserves or guard and go to school. College is awesome, but the army has been pretty fun too. There will be a lot of underage drinking in both, but there are more girls in college.

    You're too indecisive and stress about little things, the Military will eat you alive, let alone SOF, go to college.

    School FTW.

    A proper education is much more important than joining the military because you think it's cool. A military background could only get you so far once you go back to the civilian world, but a college degree can lead to anything.

    Plus there is nothing stopping you from enlisting after you receive a degree and vice versa.

    X2
    School 1st, military later
    Thats why I choose university first then compulsory military back home. Since you're in a study stage already, just finish it. Once you're in the military, you just wont feel like doing studies anymore. Take the chance 2 finish it, then you can have all the time in the world to concentrate on the military.

    Yeah never though of it that way, thanks. Probably will do College first, military later. I will most likely join the national guard though, because there is no way I can afford to go to the university I want and it seems like the Guard will pay for most, if not all of it.
