I agree with Lord Helmet, as a graduate of a military college, I still went to USMC OCS regardless of whether or not I took 4 years of NROTC classes (my grades sucked). The ONLY school that will make you a better Marine Officer is The Basic School and whatever MOS school you attend. Go to a regular college, enjoy life, reassess what you want to do when the time comes (3 or 4 years from now) and don't fill your head with any misconceptions that any college will make you a better Marine. Get drunk, get laid, go to a real college. My 2 cents

I know it sounds fickle but I was just planning on taking whatever I get first (If not USMA, then Marine OCS). But you do raise a good point; I should apply to USNA as well because there is always that Marine option. It shouldn't be hard from what I am already doing; I will simply have to open up a file at USNA. I believe a lot of the application materiel overlaps for USMA and USNA. I think the congressional recomendation is the same for both and the CFA test is as well? Will definetely keep you in mind if I have a question or two about OCS, thanks.
There are a limited number of WPers that are allowed to get commissioned in another branch, other than the Army. It requires permission from the SecDef, but it happens. I know of several guys that went USMC out of the Point. Unless things have drastically changed, you begin your application process to USMA (and all of the service academies) in the spring of your junior year. It is a long and arduous process, mind-numbing at times. Of course computers and the internet may make the whole process different. If you get a chance to go to a service academy go. PERIOD. If your goal is to go to college to chase broads, drink beer, get laid and en route earn a commission and a degree, you're not what West Point is looking for. There mission is to prepare young men & women for a lifetime of service to the nation as a leader of character. It is a tough school academically, socially, emotionally and physically.

No one is going to tell you that they work for Intel coy. The CF and DND denies that they any HUMINT coy.
Before you become some kind of 007 why don't you join the combat arms and get a feel for it, learn something then get recruited through your COC.

here is the CANFORGEN for HUMINT

    CANFORGEN 096/04 DCDS 155 131716Z JUL 04
HUMINT CANDIDATE ASSESSMENT PROGRAMME (HCAP) SEP 04
    UNCLASSIFIED

SITUATION. TO SP CURRENT AND FUTURE CF COMMITMENTS IN INTERNATIONAL OPS, THERE IS AN ON-GOING REQUIREMENT TO FIND VOLUNTEERS, BOTH JUNIOR OFFRS AND NCMS FROM THE REG AND RES COMPONENTS OF THE CF, WHO ARE INTERESTED AND SUITABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN OVERT HUMAN INTELLIGENCE (HUMINT) OPS IN A DEMANDING MULTINATIONAL ENVIRONMENT. THESE TYPES OF OPS REQR PERS POSSESSING VERY SPECIFIC PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND CAPABILITIES. ACCORDINGLY, THIS CANFORGEN IS PROMULGATED TO SOLICIT VOLUNTEERS FOR HCAP WHICH WILL SELECT SUITABLE CANDIDATES FOR HUMINT TRG AND EMPLOYMENT. DG INT/J2 PLANS WILL CONDUCT HCAP BETWEEN 13-25 SEP 04 AT CFB KINGSTON. HCAP CONSISTS OF SEVERAL CONSECUTIVE THREE DAY SELECTION SERIALS

DEFINITION. NATO DEFINES HUMINT AS A CATEGORY OF INT DERIVED FROM INFO COLLECTED FROM HUMAN SOURCES. IN BROADER TERMS, OUR KEY ALLIES DESCRIBE DEFENCE HUMINT AS INTELLIGENCE PRODUCED AS A RESULT OF THE SYSTEMATIC AND CONTROLLED EXPLOITATION OF HUMAN SOURCES BY MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES, TRAINED IN AND DEDICATED TO THAT ROLE. ALONG WITH SIGNALS INTELLIGENCE (SIGINT) AND IMAGERY INTELLIGENCE (IMINT), HUMINT IS A PRIMARY INT COLLECTION DISCIPLINE CONTRIBUTING TO THE OVERALL INT PROCESS. IT IS AN IMPORTANT SOURCE OF INTELLIGENCE IN SUPPORT OF OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND IS THE COLLECTION DISCIPLINE OF CHOICE ON DEPLOYED OPS. AGAIN, DEFENCE HUMINT ACTY WILL BE CONDUCTED OVERTLY IN UNIFORM UNDER VERY SPECIFIC AND DIRECTED CONTROL.

VOLUNTEERS. IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR VOLUNTEERS AND THEIR CHAIN-OF-COMMAND TO NOTE THAT IF SELECTED DURING HCAP, MEMBERS WILL BE IMMEDIATELY LOADED ON THE FIELD HUMINT OPERATOR (BASIC) CRSE AND SUBSEQUENTLY TASKED TO FORM PART OF A FIELD HUMINT TEAM (FHT) IN SUPPORT OF DEPLOYED OPS. MEMBERS THAT ARE NOT AVAL FOR DEPLOYMENT WILL NOT BE LOADED ON HCAP OR BASIC HUMINT CRSE. IN THE PAST, THERE HAVE BEEN SOME MISCONCEPTIONS REGARDING FIELD HUMINT, AND SOME VOLUNTEERS HAVE APPLIED NOT UNDERSTANDING THE FUNCTION OF HUMINT OR CONFUSING HUMINT WITH CIMIC OR SOCIAL PATROLLING. IT IS THEREFORE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT INTERESTED APPLICANTS DO SOME RESEARCH IN ORDER TO PREPARE FOR THE SELECTION PROCESS. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON GENERAL HUMINT CAPABILITY CAN BE FOUND IN DISPATCHES VOL 8 NO 1 AT THE FOL DWAN WEB SITE: http://HTTP://LFDTS.ARMY.MIL.CA/ALLC...VOL8NO1ENG.PDF THE ARMY DOCTRINE ON HUMINT OPS, B-GL-357-002, IS ALSO AVAL ON DWAN AT http://HTTP://LFDTS.ARMY.MIL.CA/AEL/...002-FP-001.PDF

FIELD HUMINT TEAMS ARE CURRENTLY REQR IN ALL MAJOR CF OPS, AND THE CAPABILITY WILL LIKELY REMAIN IN HIGH DEMAND FOR EVERY DEPLOYED OP IN THE FUTURE. ACCORDINGLY, VOLUNTEERS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING HCAP AND BASIC HUMINT CRSE REMAIN LIABLE FOR POTENTIAL SIX-MONTH TASKS IN HUMINT POSITIONS IN SP OF CF DEPLOYED OPS. SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES SHOULD BE AWARE THAT A NATIONAL REGISTRY OF HUMINT QUALIFIED PERS IS MAINTAINED BY NDHQ J2 PLANS

APPLICANTS WILL BE REQR TO COMPLETE A THREE-STEP SELECTION AND TRG PROGRAM AS FOLS:

5.A. INITIAL UNIT SCREENING OF APPLICANTS (SEE PARA

5.B. INDIVIDUAL SELECTION PROCESS VIA ONE OF THE THREE-DAY HCAP SCHEDULED BETWEEN 13-25 SEP 04 AT CFB KINGSTON, AND

5.C. IF SELECTED FROM HCAP, A FIVE-WEEK BASIC HUMINT TRG CRSE, TO BE CONDUCTED FROM 18 OCT TO 19 NOV 04 BY CFSMI AT CFB KINGSTON

PROFILE AND CRITERIA. IT IS RECOGNISED THAT THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT IS NOT SUITED TO ALL. IT IS THEREFORE IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT FAILURE TO BE SELECTED IS NOT A REFLECTION OF OVERALL CAPABILITIES OR PERFORMANCE. FOR HUMINT EMPLOYMENT, THE CF IS LOOKING FOR MATURE INDIVIDUALS WHO POSSESS AND CAN DEVELOP SPECIFIC INTER-PERSONAL SKILL SETS. APPLICANTS MUST SATISFY, AS A MIN REQUIREMENT, THE FOL CRITERIA:

6.A. RANK OF CPL TO WO AND LT/CAPT

Thank you very doing that, that is very nice of you, is it alright to ask if this new unit would be considered a special forces unit or is this OPSEC too.

ps I am trying to get my username from a mod changed since I stupidly chose it without thinking about how someone needs to earn that right. I am very sorry if have upset anyone over this name. I was very stupid and I am very sorry.

Well it's been awhile since posting here.

I completed US Army Infantry OSUT and I'm doing my five jumps next week to finish up Airborne school. I can't wait to get to a unit and actually start life in the Army, although being a trainie has its perks. The guys with the tan berets pick me up right after Airborne graduation, yay.

For anyone on here interested in joining, I couldn't have been happier with my decision; especially going enlisted. I was going to finish school, but it just wasn't cutting it for me.

    Its been good so far.

Does anyone know if the Canadian forces pathfinder regiment is being disbanded or stopped. My friend asked a recruiter about the pathfinder regiment and he told him that he should not try out because they would not be around anymore?
