I say join the French Foreign Legion. They're all high speed and stuff, plus you'd get to wear those really cute camo shorts when it's hot out.
From what I was told from a gunny in the MC. "asking brand new lieutenants to go for things that do not exist may be funny in the army, but it's VERY risky in the Marine Corps. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but in the nearly three decades I've been serving...enlisted / officer / civilian...., I've never seen it. Perhaps that's why we're not the army..."
I will NEVER join the french, in anything.
I really like where this thread is headed. Its about 60% of the way to pure awesomeness. Let's not forget to bash blind people in here. We don't want to ruin the awesomeness.

Go in the Army, they need plumbers for the barracks.
Its not necessarily you, its the responses. Your question has been asked around 100000000 times but putting that aside the responses are solid gold. Expect a lot of attention when the regulars show up. It'll be a show. I'd say there is a 100% chance that someone other than me will quote Apocalypse Now.

Honestly, all MOSes are pretty much the same sh*t different branch. There are differences, but they are miniscule. Like the quote states below, all the branches are cross trained by other branches. For example, if you are going into Army, Navy or Marine Intelligence, you are still going to be trained by the Army in Ft. Hauchuca.
Well, here's my prespective. Let's start with a little about me.
I come from New Orleans -- I was raised to be a sauciere.. a great sauciere.
We specialize in sauces; my whole family. It's what we do. I was
supposed to go to Paris and study at the Escoffier School; I was saving the money. They called me for my physical so I figured the Navy had better food. They lined us all up in front of a hundred yards of prime rib -- magnificent meat, beautifully marbled.. Then they started throwing it in these big cauldrons, all of it -- boiling. I looked in, an' it was turning gray. I couldn't stand it. I went into radio school.
Marine Corps infantry is good and all, but you better be ready for a rough time. Oh and as for Marines on ships, it sucks. I'm part of the 26th MEU and all we really do on ship is sleep, work out and wait in rediculous lines for chow. It sucks but it's skate as hell.
that is a camradery thing and has nothing to do with lack of respect, from my experience in the "disrespectful" Army if you dont get messed with it is for a reason.
even as an officer you will be given respect such as saying Sir and being saluted, but real respect is earned.
