    Default Joining the Hellenic Army

Hi, I currently live in Canada , and am a university student, 21 years old.
My parents are Greek and my dad was in the Greek army a while back.

    I have no military experience.
All i know is i want to join.
But my Greek is not great ... 7/10.

Im just wondering what the life is like there for an international recruit.
I know the time I spend there might be shorter than the people actually born there. I think its 6-9 months?

Anyways, ill give some background info of myself to see if i can survive once i sign up lol.

Ive trained in various martial arts over the past 6-7 years, I obtained my blackbelt in shotokahn karate 2 years ago and stopped ever since ( personal reasons and school stuff) .
Ive also trained in the Russian martial art of Systema ( but only briefly)
    Also done some boxing.

I weigh 135 lbs, 5'9. and have an active life style at the gym. But im really trying to gain alot more mass and muscle for the military life.

Another reason why im giving this info is because one of my goals is to join the Special Forces in Greece ( commandos )

I want to know what it takes, i know its gonna be HELL, and i should expect the worst.

Would appreciate if anyone out there new anything about this military and could give some advice.

O i have checked the Greek military websites but they dont have much specific info and most of the info is in hardcore Greek which is hard for me to understand lol

    Thanks

I believe you can have official answers to your questions from Greek embassy in Canada.

Good luck Ghelp, remember speed and intensity, sound off, and no matter how good you may be, you need your fellow recruits to complete anything.

he is saying sarcastically, as in you are Canadian born and raised therefore you should perhaps serve the country that gave you a great life and not a country that you identify with only through your families history.

It's a pretty flawed argument anyways because if the guy wants to join the Greek army then by all means he should. And your martial arts training will be pointless other then just showing us you have some basic discipline. please don't make a fool of yourself and say that your a black belt or whatever to the recruiter.

Hawaii Light wasn't suggesting he join the CF. He was merely explaining Ghelp's post.

You don't need "Mass" do strength exercises, so the mass is in the proper places, other than that, Stamina, keep it up, the more the better.
Knowing a martial art will help you with learning whatever they are teaching quicker,
other than that not much worth a mentioning.
But the forums are littered with "Can I join a foreigns country elite unit 'cause I daydream a lot" threads.

Awesome advice KEEPER, Remember that your Drill Instructors have a goal of making you the best Marine in the Corps, so learn from them and listen to the things they give you no matter how harsh the teaching style

dude, you can mention to recruiter that you did martial arts for couple of years, he will ask you about sport, hobbies and so on anyway. A least it means that you are probably not fat ass internet hero. Especially boxing is gonna be respected skill between your future army mates. I know sh.t about greece, but hopefully someone who does will respond soon. Take care, and donīt let anybody disgust you even before you try.

But, seriously, man, canadian army offers nowadays more action than greece(I mean deployments into COMBAT, not only peacekeeping)

At least he's not an airsofter from another country going," I LOVES DA AMERICANZ I WANTZ THE M4! Can i join?!" He has legitimate ties to his mother country and he wishes to serve them. Props to you man, but I would finish college first.
