I don't think he meant drop out of uni and go on on ops, never to be seen at uni again.

I think he meant get involved with the TA whilst finishing your degree, with the chance of ops further on, or regular service perhaps.

To be honest there is a fair bit of interchange in a uni town between OTC and TA. You get various odd entities such as TASOs which seem to be half-and-half.

I went TA not OTC, am completing my degree, don't see what the drama is there.

And for those mobilised whilst students, it hardly fcuks your life up. Students can apply for exemption until finishing if that is what they wish; however we've had guys mobilise during uni, then come back and finish off their degree. I've no doubt that was a big adjustment and not easy, but it is proof it can be (and is) done. Pretty good way to fund yourself through a masters/whatever else too if you think about it.... Hmmmm.....

Your only moaning because its the truth. A good degree and an Officers Commission means; A) You eat better, B) Get paid a **** load more, C) Don't have to stand all those moany fookers who bitch and moan about Officer Cadets with a fake smile - they get their place firmly marked out for them, and anything else had better be said out of ear shot and well outside your arm reach. Oh and D) You don't have to stand there and go all moany pony at people and take the piss; you can actually give praise to people who deserve it and you won't get ridiculed for it, because to be frank, no one would dare ridicule a three pip now would they unless they either had a crown of their own or were very good friends. Anything else is career suicide.

Stay in school, get a good education and it sows the seeds for a bountiful harvest later in life.

    That be as it may.

However, what I fail to see is how getting involved with the TA, and achieving said degree and commission and circumstances you outline above, are mutually exclusive?

    Pray tell.

There was more to that - I tried to multi quote it, sorry.

Now, if they are staying in their degree and it can be completed without any drama and they go TA route, then blessed be; awesome choice IF it doesn't throw any spanners in the works. I know 3 mature nursing students who had to drop a year (one even dropped altogether) due to TA call up (medical services), and the irony being that they were all aiming for re-entry into the forces as Nursing Officers.

So I am firmly of the belief that a degree is paramount concern; Sandhurst will still be there, wars will still need fighting and men still need leading 3 years down the line. Life turning into a bag of spanners is the last thing they need.

Yeh sounds like those 3 nurses got a raw deal out of it.

I am going off people I have known as well, who seemed to handle it quite well.

All depends on circumstances I suppose.

Ooh. Hard bloke. May I remind you that an OCdt is the equivalent of a TA private? Punch up simply results in the first guy to launch getting fooked.

Oh, unless that 'three pip' was a total tosser and damn near got your mates killed because he thought he was fooking mega.

No ****...that's why I've got a fooking degree then is it mate?

Still doesnt mean that after a year of OTC a decent bloke might consider swapping to a deployable unit to serve his country during wartime. Or am I being a cvnt?

Your not being a cvnt at all; its just we have different views and experiences of the TA and Officer Cadets.

In 2005 three nursing trainees got to go 'play in the sand' and got totaly mega fooked over by the Army. Two had to drop a year, one dropped altogether.
The one who dropped is now a medical technician, and thats a fooking waste of a talented lady who could of gone Nursing Officer but the TA wanted their pound of flesh. So she is now a Techie and thats a criminal waste of her talents.

All the Officer cadets I knew are now two and three pips, and those who dropped a year are still at Uni - who won there? those that were not TA.

War can wait a while, its not going any where.

Of course they did, they were on ops. It's a bit far for 'distance learning'.

As for the one who dropped out, why? The University can't force you out for being deployed. The most they can do is try and contest the mobilisation.

If you don't fufill the NMC hours and study requirments they can sling you out when ever they want.

You fall behind they will back track you, and thats your last chance. If you get back tracked more than once and take more than 4 years and 11 months to complete, you won't be eligable for registration.

Nursing isn't like many other courses; it has class and practise hours / competencies to pass and uphold.

The army would of got 3 nurses after 3 years. Now it will get 2 after 4 years. In my book thats a waste.

Stay in Officer Cadets, finish the degree, then go to Sandhurst, then go play in the sand. any other way is foolish because the army doesn't give a rat fvck about you or your life and future, it just wants its pound of flesh.

Fine if they are paying your wages, but if it means your entire future life is fvcked up? forget it.
