It's also good for avoiding stoppages. When I was issued a new bush hat the size of a goddamn sombrero, the brim would fall down over the ejection port of my Steyr while firing, sometimes rebonuding the spent casings back into the port causing stoppages. The main reason I cut down my bush hat was to avoid this happening again.
I thought I did an alright job cutting it down and stitching it back together by myself-
Then I turned it over-
I missed stitches, didn't keep a straight line, and in some spots, missed the brim entirely. Not to mention when I cut it down the seams on the brim aren't parallel- they're concentric, so when I cut all the way around I was nearly 50mm out of line. I had to trim the whole thing back to make it look even, making the brim much smaller than originally planned. Turned out OK though, and I think the mistakes just add character to the hat![]()
