Not only are revolvers more reliable than automatics in the right hands they are also very accurate. GIGN uses the MR-73 revolver (either the .44 magnum w/ 8in or .357 magnum w/ 10in barrel) and according to them a good shot can hit a 4cm wide disk at 100m. The shotgun may be scoped for firing slugs, although the barrel is quite short.
