    Default unsung hero`s islanders

one of the people i met when was on the islands was a tractor driver called Patrick Minto and another chap called Morris, and also Philip Miller and trudi macfee, these blokes and ladies you dont hear so much about but these are some of the islanders that ferried ammo up mount longdon.
here is a poem from Patrick Minto.

    I`ll not turn back.
    By Patrick Minto.

The night pitch black, intensely cold
If it all goes wrong I`ll not see old
No lights allowed to drive up that track
I may be scared but i`ll not turn back

My load`s a burden, but it must get through
To those boys up there, the machine gun crew
They need the ammo to maintain their attack
I may be scared but i`ll not turn back

Down into the valley below the steep ridge
Charge through the pass, a tank`s wrecked the bridge
Now for that mountain without pause or slack
I may be scared but i`ll not turn back

A flash and a bang, directly ahead
Twenty yards closer and i`d be dead
Just keep going now on a port tack
I may be scared but i`ll not turn back

Where are those paras, I so wish to find
I`m not circling here, this place is mined
And there just in front, tracer and flack
I may be scared but i`ll not turn back

Then a sergeant appears right alongside
Climbs and says, I`ll be your guide
My lads need ammo they`re in a cul-de-sac
We`re so glad you made it and didn`t turn back.

patrick if you read this cheers, scouse oconnell 3 para

    Jimmy, you know this bloke?

DEEP IN MY MIND WHERE NOBODY GOES

    By Gus Hales

    Every year on Remembrance Sunday

I sit in the corner of the British Legion Bar,

Dressed in blazer, shirt, Regimental tie

And polished shoes, with my head held high.

But deep in my mind, where nobody goes,

I see a wooden cross where the wind of victory lies.

“Three Cheers for Victory,” I hear the politician say.

But you never asked me about my victory.

And, if they did, I would have explained it this way:

It isn’t your flags or emblems of war,

Or the marching of troops past the Palace’s door.

It isn’t Mrs. Thatcher on the balcony high,

Reaffirming her pledge to serve or die.

But it’s the look and the pain on a teenager’s face

As he dies for his country, In a far off place.

It’s the guns and the shells and the Phosphorus grenades

And the wounded and the dead in freshly cut graves

Or the grieving wife or the fatherless child

Whose young, tender life will be forever defiled.

Or the alcoholic soldier with a shattered mind

Who takes the suicide option for some peace to find.

Well, that’s my victory but no one knows

For its deep in my mind where nobody goes.

I beg to differ - the Argentines went way above and other terms of the lease granted to Sr. Davidoff by Messrs Christian Salveson & Co. (not the UK Government who were not involved) and used military force. It was in fact the Government of The Falkland Islands Dependencies who objected to Argentine illegal activities on South Georgia, at this point the UK Government was in no way involved.

I would advise you to tread very carefully on this matter as history goes against you. Many of your countrymen have spouted similar inaccuracies on this topic, and such posts are not welcome.

By all means post accurate and factual information, but if trouble making is your aim, stay away.

    Default We Won

I dont post many threads but the facts are as follows
We sent a force 8000 miles we took on a force that had invaded British Soil, treated the Islanders like sh*t.
Good men where lost on both sides but the actions of our forces helped bring down a goverment that killed thousands of it own people and only took on this action to divert its people from the problems at home.
Having served down in the Falklands just after 82 and having a very good mate killed at Goose Green i am so proud of being an ex-member of the British Army.
I also went to the rugby match at Quins RFC to remember after 25yrs the sacrifice British forces made, to speak and drink with these people and realise that after hearing there tails we should always defend what is right.
But the best moment was speaking to a member of D sqd SAS who said "respect must be shown to those who died fighting " He was there.

    Hear hear!

Halcon_cruz - your post is inaccurate, misguided and just plain wrong. Unless you have something which is both correct and worthwhile, do not disrespect the fallen of either side by posting here any further. I have removed your deliberately provocative avatar, and will remove both your posts and your membership if you post any further provocative material - I hope I make myself clear.

I's not only propaganda. It's a kind of national myth which is a part of national, common identity. Even participans (or great number of them) of invasion still believe that they made a great thing for their country.

The people who live there are as I understand it more then happy to be affiliated to the UK and are fiercely proud and grateful to all the Falklands island vets
i was in the falklands 2 weeks ago welcomed back by the islanders and i was humbled by how british these people are and how patriotic the are, i for one can say i am glad we went to their assistance, we paid the price, but we could not, ever think of not helping these british people, i would be the first in the queue.

That's the spirit Jimmy - most of us are proud of you lads and the sacrifices you made. It really annoys me that people born after the conflict can have views perverted by inaccuracy and propaganda.
