    Default Nonsense

A very interesting battle I read about was described in the book "Twilight Warriors" by Martin Arostegui. A unit of the SAS was inserted onto Mount Kent to observe Argentine movements at Stanley. They were spotted by the Argies who sent the 601 Commando Battalion (Argentine Army SF) to drive them out. So, there was a battle that night between Argentine and British SF on the mountain. The British were driven back but managed to hold onto the mountain until the Royal Marines arrived. After this there were some scattered skrimishes, and an Argentine SF sniper with a silenced rifle shot 13 Marines over a period of a week or so before being captured.

Another story i've heard, and this is still sensitive so this is partly speculative, is that the SAS infiltrated the Argentine mainland to either sabotage Exocet missiles or report on aircraft taking off from Argentine military airfields. As mentioned before in this thread, they did find the wreckage of a Sea King that crashed in Chile.

This is not true about a stand alone SF sniper taking our 13 Marines I was in K Coy 42 Commando RM who relieved the SAS on that Mountain...and this event did not happen

James Peck is handed his identity card by Argentine President Cristina Fernandez

Earlier this week a British man became the first Falkland islander to choose Argentine citizenship.

James Peck was handed his national identity card by President Fernandez, during a ceremony to mark the 29th anniversary of the end of the Falklands War.

Mr Peck's father Terry was a member of the Falkland Islands Defence Force and died during the conflict.

Terry Peck did not die during the conflict...he was the police chief when I was there in 78...he did help Brit Forces a great deal during the war and got an OBE for it if my memory serves me correctly!

Thanks. I'm glad that finally the smoke of battle - and ill-informed writing- will be dispersed as much as it can. Would I be right, then, in thinking that "Voices from Longdon" will be in printed book form?

My book of images taken during the Falkands conflict is now also available as an iBook direct from Blurb. It's obviously not as good as a signed printed copy but it's certainly a lot cheeper. Over 400 images and many of them never published before now.

Complete HMS Conqueror Operation 'Corporate' ROP (Report of Proceedings) declassified by the MoD:

PART 2 contains the shadowing of Task Group 79.3 and the sinking of ARA General Belgrano. Fascinating reading.

'Conks' engaged Belgrano with 21'' Mk8 Mod 4 heavyweight torpedoes from a distance of 1,550 yards... that's pretty much point-blank range in naval warfare!

Also the man overboard incidnet when crossdecking 6 SBS to HMS Antrim. The Mne involved should have got a medal for his actions in the water.

Rear Admiral Carlos Busser, who led the Argentine invasion of the Falklands, has died of a heart attack.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...rt-attack.html

Not just for his role in the war (which he continued to attempt to justify until his death), but also for his complicity in torture, and supporting a regime which committed appalling acts of cruelty... i suspect he's burning in hell right now.

Argentine military governor of the Falklands arrested for human rights violations

The military governor of the Falkland Islands during Argentina’s brief occupation of the archipelago in 1982 was detained for his alleged role in human rights abuses at a notorious torture center in the 1970s, prosecutors said Thursday.
