Default US Army to get new body armor, "Improved OTV"

...and most of us poor sods don't even have an ACU IBA yet. Release system, and ACU molle webbing, integrated side SAPI pockets. Apparently it starts getting issued on Thursday.

Mods, feel free to move this to the gear section if it fits better there.

Damn I like that they've actually gone and used UCP webbing on this instead of the Foliage Green as before..

oowh jesus, and i flipped alot of cash on an ACU IBA........

    damn improvements!

But seriously, it looks great. I hope it will save alot of lifes.

It does seem that the flap on the front will reduce the amount of 'real estate' for your pouches..

wow almost same exact thing as the marine MTV. The army has a habit of copying the marine corps. Oh well if it works it works and im glad they can.

it has the same basic design. Kidney guard, under arm SAPI Plates, molle and vest conf.. Its kinda the same. Other than the opening of it and the adjustablity of the length.

Are you kidding me? Thats like saying that Ford basically ripped their pickup truck design off of Dodge, because it has a bed and a cab and an engine. The new vest that we're getting is not at all like the Marine Corps vest.

Haha, no I'm a history major at the University of Guelph (near Toronto). I just spotted the article on some other forums and thought people here would be interested.

Edit: Ohhhhh....by some of us not having ACU IBAs I was referring to fellow collectors of military gear. I didn't realize why you asked at first...sorry, exams have my brain all fried .
