I don't know if nutrition bar=protein bar in your first post. But I wouldnt touch that stuff unless you want to bulk. You still need to eat protein(just not ungodly amounts) because it repairs your muscles. Like D-gin said try to eat healthy/clean it will go along way in making you feel better too. Stick to it don't cheat yourself and you will see results.

protein helps build muscles- muscle burns fat....Its not like you're taking Muscle Gainer 2000 or something, and doin power lifts at the gym, so I wouldnt worry about bulking up...

And D-gin makes a great point..Try to stay away from anything 'white' or that comes in a bag or box, like white rice, white noodles, crackers, chips, white bread,

Stick with lean proteins, dark leafy greens, whole grains, ect ect..and you'll be good..

You should take a whole food supplement too, either in powder form (tastes like ass, but great for you) or tablet form..gives you the nutrients from things like wheat grass, spirulina,ec..plus vitamins and minerals..GNC has some good ones..plus its bonus week right now there,so its 20% off

Hellfish you are doing a lot of good things man, I would recommend staying away from bars because they are filled with a lot of hidden stuff (sugar alcohols etc) and they don't digest well at all. Go with protein shakes instead, and what bridget said about b-fast is true. I recommend oatmeal and eggs.

I also recommend sticking to one particular program. All of the programs (crossfit, fitday) are awesome but it can be like drinking from a fire hose if you get too much info going at once.

Core Performance may very well be the most inclusive, well rounded, and best researched programs out there. (props to the other programs) Mark Verstegen is way ahead of his time. His books really bring it all together (nutrition, lifestyle, training, functionality etc.) I was at his facility in Tempe and it is first rate.

Well done on the first few weeks, most people don't really start noticing change until the 4-6 week period so keep given'er.

I have seen people use his program to train for athletic performance and functionality, and get a great aesthetic result as a side effect.

Don't buy anything from GNC unless you want to pay way too much for crappy products.

All of Bridget's advice sounds spot on. The changes you have made so far, Hellfish, sound great. Sounds like you are eating some good clean foods and you are doing a great job spreading your food intake evenly throughout the day.

4000+ calories sounds maybe a little high, but not by much. I wouldn't be surprised if you were burning in the 3000 to 3600 range. Just keep doing what you are doing. Eating few calories than you are burning leads to fat loss, but it takes a little time. I would definitely expect you to start seeing results by week 3 though.

Yeah, I use fitday just to keep track of what I eat. I don't use it for any kind of program or anything, just a record.

My only issue with the Core Performance program is that I've got to go out and buy a bunch of accessories to do what the program calls for (foam rolls, stretch ropes, physioballs) which I really don't want to spend money on just yet. As of right now, I'm using the core performance program as a guide to what kinds of things I should be doing as opposed to the absolute truth. I do like what I see with it, though - especially the demonstration videos and resources they offer.

Hellfish, just before you have a meal, do some light exercise as well. When I am saying light, I am not even talking about a jog, just go for a quick fast paced walk for like 10 minutes. Then when you eat, your metabolism is working at a pretty high rate already.

Got a specific kind of supplement in mind? I was gonna pick up fish oil today, but beyond that I don't know. What about whey protein? Multivitamins?

D-Gin referred me to bodybuilder.com which has been an awesome resource so far. Almost all of my questions have been answered already there and the forum is a wealth of info. I just put together a shopping list for the grocery store that doesn't make me depressed.. haha.

Im in agreement with Silver..dont get GNC brand...I used 'SuperGreens' I think the name was..powder formula..its about 27 bucks for a months supply..I have a tablet form now that I got at another store called Alive! from Natures Way, not sure if GNC carries that though...I like the powder form better than the tablet..so go for that if you dont mind drinking asswater everyday( cause it dont taste good mixed with anything)

When you get a fish oil, spend the few extra bucks to get wild alaskan salmon fish oil if they have it...from what ive read, its worth the extra money for the quality not only in fish oil caplets, but for eating salmon as well...

I like Muscle Milk for my protien powder, tastes good, (I only use one scoop rather than the serving size of two) comes in already made shakes too...Cookies and cream is the best so far..

Hellfish, my protein advice from a couple pages ago:

My two favorite proteins are Optimum Nutrition's Pro Complex in chocolate:

    http://www.supplementcentral.com/opt...-complex-4.4lb

And Dorian Yates Approves Pro Peptides:

    http://www.supplementcentral.com/dor...peptide-mbf5lb

The first is a whey and egg albumen based protein, the second micellar cassien which is a dairy based protein. It digests much slower so it is a great shake to take right before going to bed. That's a great site to order from also, been ordering from them for the last few years. Great guys.

Would sushi be an ok food for weight loss? I've heard conflicting things about white rice - some seem to think it's an ok complex carb, some say brown rice only.

White rice is not a good complex carb at all. A little here and there, like in sushi, isn't going to hurt you too much. But if you are going to settle down with a bowl of rice, then you should definitely go with brown.

Yo Hellfish...here is a good quick recipe for you from The Abs Diet book

    Hurry Curry

1/2 c plain fat free yogurt
    1/2 c fat-free mayo
    3 T finely chop onion
    1t ginger
1t curry powder ( I use a bit more for taste)
1lb chicken breast cut into 1/2" strips
    1t paprika
    1/2 t pepper
2 C cooked brown rice (dont get the instant kind, its worth the 45 min cooking time for the nutrients in the real kind)

Mix mayo, yogurt, onion, ginger and curry powder in small bowl

Sprinkle chicken with paprika and pepper and cook in nonstick skillet over medium heat for 4-5 minutes

Stir in yogurt mixture, cook stirring for 2 minutes..Then serve over rice

    Its yummy!
