I do all weight lifting :
wide pullups 3x10, shoulders 75 3x10, bench press 265 5x6, squats 315 5x5, biceps, triceps, army press, etc.
but my most important exercises are hitting the bag 30-45 minutes after weights + running every other day in the morning several miles and swimming another day. sauna of course.
frankly there is such a thing called Tescao in Atlanta (also in Russia) - it is a martial art, which involves a lot of acrobatics, spinning, rolling, natural kind of power (scary one hit kill stuff) - I might start going there.
the thing is that I am not trying to get too big - I do that to be fast and strong at same time - loosening my arms is the right term I guess, but I've been doing this since beginning and this seems natural for me, although I burn a lot of the muscle I could've had, while boxing)
and yes, hitting the bag is probably the best way to loose weight, but not the easiest one
X 2 on that; very good remark.
If you try to hit the bag with technique and with 30 / 50 % force, you´ll notice how exhausting it may be, even if you have a decent cardio.
I´m gonna buy my own bag soon
BTW, I do the same reps for pull ups (3 x 10), but I try to add extra weight (I "build" a belt with those little sand-bags that girls use in their ankles)
Lunch workout:
Bad ass pain in my elbow.
I did one set of pull ups (5) and had to stop.
4 sets inclione dumbell presses, more pain but not as bad.
4 sets bench press. Better.
4 sets incline fly. Elbow pain is numb.
4 sets decline benchpress.
4 sets cable flies.
This is a new kind of pain. I fear tendonitus...perhaps 12 years of pitching is catching up to me. I have no idea.
Listen to your body. And then tell it to stop whining.
Its a fine line. Work legs on Monday and you will be sore on Tuesday. A good 2-4 mile jog will work some of that lactic acid out. But don't go overboard! No intervals, long distance, hillclimbs etc. And indeed, stretch after. Running is its own warm up.
It has nothing to do with whining, bro. I just want to train in a healthy way to take care of my body. Its useless to hurt your body, it doesn't increase your endurance, it doesn't make you tough too.
No, my shoes are not the problem. I'm using nike running shoes and they're great. I guess Vince was right. Now that I'm running everyday It seems like my problems with muscle soreness are gone, but I keep doing stretching, it can't be wrong.![]()
Asics my friend.
Its not as simple as brands. I went to a place that records your footfalls on a treadmill and they fitted me for a shoe that fits my stride. I had done Nike, Adidas, New Balance and even Asics (They raised blisters on my arches. I gave them away in under 10 miles.). It turns out I needed Mizunos. My feet and knees have never been so pain free through a run.
Going to a solid running shop does help with that...but they're also selling you more expensive toys. I'm running in Saucony Kinvara 2s as well...they're a minimalist shoe with a 3.5mm heel toe drop. Good stuff.
