I've started a routine each day to maintain a base level of fitness. Diet consists of small meals every 3 hours or so over the course of the day and a constant stream of press up and sit up variations carried out at spare moments during the day. A 2 mile minimum run is carried out every other day.

Press ups are usually covered in groups of 10, though if I'm waiting for the kettle to boil I'll bang them out from start to finish, the same when adverts are on the TV. Standard, wide arm, or diamonds depending on how I'm feeling, though I aim for a broad mix of them all.

Sit ups are the same, except in groups of 25 and with variations. Sometimes I substitute crunches.

Over the course of the day from waking up until bedtime I can easily get a minimum 3-400 pressups done, and 700 or so situps - more is easily achievable, I've got a lot of time on my hands right now. It's just to maintain a base level to work from. I've only just started doing them before the weekend, and I've neglected them as I've been away, but I can already feel "tighter" and more in shape even after a short time.

I'm not a gym rat really, I'm also not interested in bulking up, I want an efficient, healthy body. I aim to incorporate Fartlek (ho ho ho) training in at some point and weighted marches.

Your body can't adapt to running if you are walking, so just run slower at first for a distance and then when you are ready step it up.

Keep up the great effort. I bet the ride is as fun as hell for the little one...
    Thanks I'll try that.

Yeah he loves it. He's usually asleep by the time I get home, too, which is nice for me.

Make sure you give yourself some time for recovery every few days so you avoid injury. Nice routine though. If you stay consistent, you will be a machine in no time. Get some pull ups or back extensions in there so you dont create a body imbalance. That leads to big time problems down the road.

i was talking about the teenies i see in the gym everyday that do nothing but abs and curls and have never deadlifted or squatted in their life. unless the firefighters you were talking about do nothing but curls and situps, i don't get how you took it the way you did, but that's that.

That seems to be getting more prominent these days. There are lots of younger kids on pro hormones doing chest and biceps every second day. Thats why I am glad to see the younger crowd getting into cross-fit and the like.

As long as they stay as far away from the squat rack as possible to where i don't have to wait, i don't mind what they do.

Monday nights are the worst nights to train. Its always an overcrowded night and a bench press competition.

I wish there was a 24 hr gym where I live. Late night sessions are great. Thats a great business idea for people who work shifts.......and insomniacs.
