Looks like the people have spoken. Ankle/Wrist weights are a no-no.
My ergometer (rowing machine), much like the ones in the pic, is lying in my mom's basement![]()
agree with Caper...the deal with the wt vest is that it adds wt for your runs which will make you stronger and faster in any event you choose...at the Sgt's Course at 29 Palms, weighted rucks were used for all runs...so when the final PFT came the runtimes were ridiculously low...
They cause unwanted stress in your ligaments and tendons. It will probably mean you will have more shin splints and ankle problems. Ankle problems can be the killer of runners, my grandfather was a state ranked runner until he banged up his ankle real good(leading him to quit running for a very long time). He started running moderately well again at his old age, but his ankle still gives him problems, even 40 years after the injury.
I can post some good running work outs. The gym can help a little with your speed, but the only way to truly get better at running is just to keep on running longer and faster.
more good advice from Zonk...if you take it too fast you'll pop knee ligaments so fast it'll make your head spin....
I plan on offering my best professional opinions in this thread and am willing to help mp. net members as much as possible. Let it be noted that I have had a few Canadian Clubs so if my typing is a bit off tonight I apologize.
if you want to run with resistance, get a running parachute. My team uses them and they are pretty hardcore.
what are you training for? Distance? Sprint? Weight loss?
We used to do workouts at swim practice with surgical tubing attached to us -- great resistance, and since swimming is non-impact, we didn't worry about any injuries. Except of course the tendinitis in my shoulders, but I blamed that on just being a general pansy.
. Weight gain/tone up.
. Increase stamina/running ability
Yup, I went swimming last week. The resistence is great for training. Check this out: http://aquajogger.com/default.htm
Actually I got it as a nickname from my cross country team/track team. I got it because I can do much more push-ups and sit-ups then the rest of my team,(my claim to fame is the "Plank off", it's a nifty little exercise), despite having a pretty light build. Most people are confused about the nickname since I look nothing like a roided up football player. Actually the middle school kids are the ones who get busted for steroid possession, no joke either.![]()
