    But since I'm still kinda newbie here I must ask again wherefrom you get all these pictures? It looks like press agency material, I can imagine that access to them costs money?

    Isnt a shiny barrel a bad thing when its sunny and the thing is glittering in the sun? You could easily see it over a big distance.

    IIRC the M114 barrel is shiny because of the design of the recoil system and the barrel cradle; even if it were painted, the paint would chip away every time the howitzer fired and recoiled.
