M1 Garand
I have one exactly like this...
marks: Knife: U.S. M5 IMPERIAL
Knife covering: USM8A1 T W B
I got it from my friend who was in commision which overwatched POW exchange after war in Vietnam...
Can anyone ID this for me??? For what gun it fit? AFAIK it is not for M16... so maybe M14???
Was M1 used in Vietnam??? BTW this model is from 1953? post war yes?Originally Posted by Frens

Ya only the later models of the M1 carbine had bayonets. Usually didnt see them with it on.
I think the M1 was used (along with the carbine) in the early stages of Vietnam.. Also, I'm pretty sure that M1's were distributed to the local fighters like the ARVN, and tribesmen in south Vietnam.. I think Hist would know more about this.
Herrmannek, You see those little 3 holes in LCE/MLCE belt and the two holes in LC-1/2/3 belts? You stick this bayonet mount into those holes.
You can also mount it on E-tool cover from LCE equipment.
I think it's an ol M1 carbine bayonet in M8 sheath(am I writting it correctly?). M8 sheath was used for M7A1 bayonets that were for M16
sorry for my English

yeah I was also wondering how to attach it to the belt... but then I just purchased US belthowewer it do not fit complettly perfect to holes but still it is beter than nothing... This bayonet is reele good I have it for like 7 years and use it extensivelly... outstanding as a can opener, also you can use it as a hammer or axe( one time I was forced to cut 4inch thick pine with it in order to get my car out of ditch
)
The only problem is that stell is not stainless and it takes 2-3 hours for rust to be visible on itso it must be all the time cleaned)
well, on US belts it has to fit perfectly. It is restricted by damn god law
It's a US Bayonet, that's means durabile.
If you'd see M9 LanCay.... this is a bayonetSo called tank-opener.
Korea vintage M1 Garand bayonet. The notch falls in the gasplug under the barrel. Vietnam local forces where armed with old US Army weapons till the late 60's. BTW, I've a Garand and this type of bayonet.Originally Posted by Marmot1
