SWITZERLAND COWS FIGHT-epa01011331 Two cows fight during the traditional annual 'Battle of the Queens', a cow fight in the western Alpine canton of Valais, in Aproz, Switzerland, 17 May 2007. The Valais is home to a unique breed of cows, the Herens also called Eringer cows. Members of this bovine family are very robust and possess the singular characteristic of fighting among themselves to establish a hierarchy within the herd. During the combat the cows simply push, forehead against forehead. They also use their horns in different ways. People of Valais use the unique competitive spirit of the Herens breed to organise cow fighting sporting events. These have been held in Valais since 1922.
