    Hillary Clinton blasts Bush economy

    By: The Associated Press
    May 29, 2007 12:50 PM EST

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) ? Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton outlined a broad economic vision Tuesday, saying it's time to replace an "on your own" society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.

The Democratic senator said what the Bush administration touts as an "ownership society" really is an "on your own" society that has widened the gap between rich and poor.

"I prefer a 'we're all in it together' society," she said. "I believe our government can once again work for all Americans. It can promote the great American tradition of opportunity for all and special privileges for none."

That means pairing growth with fairness, she said, to ensure that the middle class succeeds in the global economy, not just corporate CEOs.

"There is no greater force for economic growth than free markets. But markets work best with rules that promote our values, protect our workers and give all people a chance to succeed," she said. "Fairness doesn't just happen. It requires the right government policies."

Clinton spoke at the Manchester School of Technology, which trains high school students for careers in the construction, automotive, graphic arts and other industries. The school highlighted one of the nine goals she outlined: increasing support for alternative schools and community colleges.

"We have sent a message to our young people that if you don't go to college ... that you're thought less of in America. We have to stop this," she said. "Our country cannot run without the people who have the skills that are taught in this school."

Beyond education, Clinton said she would reduce special breaks for corporations, eliminate tax incentives for companies that ship jobs overseas and open up CEO pay to greater public scrutiny.

Clinton also said she would help people save more money by expanding and simplifying the earned income tax credit, create new jobs by pursuing energy independence and ensure that every American has affordable health insurance.

Why can't she just come out and say she is for hardcore socialism and just be done with it. People might actually respect her for being honest, of course most won't respect what she is preaching, but that is a thread for another day. Who is she fooling with the amount of wealth that her and that rat-bastard husband have accumulated? The only thing that will save this country is term limits, and the end of special interest coercion in politics. But since the chances of that happening are about as great as me getting it on with two attractive chicks at the same time, well we're screwed.

Don't get it...I'm pretty sure every one of the candidates will be saying some version of this...

I don't see anything particularly Socialist about Senator Clinton's proposed economic plan.

Any time someone speaks of redistribution of wealth its socialist. I highly recomend people read two books. "Capitalism and Freedom" by Milton Freidman and "The Road to Surfdom" by F.A. Hayek to fully understand why a socialist economic system will never be able to realize the same potential as a freemarket.

'Redistribution of wealth' is done by all governments on a regular basis and has little to do with socialism in any real sense.

Some of it I have a problem with, some of it I don't. Now don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of either of the Clintons, but no administration can run the government without taking your money and spending it as they see fit.

What does surfing have to do with socialism?

We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.

As any good socialist, 'the common good', 'society', 'the people', or my personal favourite (not often heard in less extreme countries due to stigma, but common here) 'the collective' -- all nice euphemisms used by statists who **** on individuals in order to elevate government above all.

Socialism is not the same as statism. Leaders have appealed to the common good since there have been leaders - certainly, one can see similar arguments made by Greek and Roman policians over 2000 years ago. However, none of that is socialism.

All of those monkey f*ckers have plans for our money. Duh. I hardly think the current administration is a glowing example of fiscal conservatism.

True, but it's a matter of degree in the end. If the choice is between spendthrifts and totally ruinous spendthrifts who want to run your life and surrender to AQ to boot, which one are ya gonna choose?

That's not the only choice anymore.

Bush had plans for your money too - squander it on an inwinnable quagmire in Iraq. And for that matter the lives of the nation's young patriots. What has Hillary planned to throw young lives away on?

No president "plans" on "throwing away" lives. Yet the left is very forgetful on the fact that they have no compulsion to "throwing away" military lives when they're in power.

Very few presidents have survived their terms of office without some use of the military where lives have been lost.
