Quick question regarding the G-36

What's the average number of rounds a G-36 can fire before any failures?

The most desirable departure from the M16 design is the fact that the gas used to operate the action is vented in the forearm, and not blown back into the action like the 'exhaust pipe' of the M16 gas tube. The G36 jams so rarely that HK has said that they have a G36K that has been fired more than 25,000 rounds without cleaning and no failures. I defy an M16 to duplicate that.

never heard of any complaints from german army about hk weapons. HK has been tested and proven in the LE, military world that I have absolutely no idea why DOD would continually make excuses to not acquire them. It's politics some people say, but deep down, are we looking after the best interests of our troops over there who constantly complain about jams, extraction problems?

Yes, DOD spend a ton of money on hk, but I raise my eyebrows here and there sometimes.

Which isn't to say that isn't.

The data that 3rdMillhouse is looking for would actually be hard to find.

In less then 25,000 rounds I would expect to have some type of ammunition failure. Probably a fail to fire attributable to ammunition. For instance.

Possibly a fail to extract due to out of spec case size. Allowing for as issued ammunition. Which is actually pretty good.

Point being that HK is going to guard the data you are looking for with everything they have.

Also, everybody knocks Eugene's little rifle, but the other point is that the bear dances at all.

Put the 36 in a few more dances. It might get better. It might be "perfect."
We will see.

Yes, Knight's Armamanets make some. Real steel version costs about 300 EUR. KSK use those very often..

And does somebody know if the "ordinary" soldiers (no SF) are allowed o modify their weapon ? Or another question, almost everyone is using kneepads, but I haven't seen any Germans (only KSK) wearing them in A-stan aren't they allowed to add kneepads to their stuff ?

I shot several thousand rounds with G36 and never had a jam. (Training ammo alway jams, but thats another story) The only jam I've ever seen was because the reciever was slowly pushed forward while loading. So in my opinion it is reliable.

"Normal" German soldiers are not allowed to modify their weapons themselves. That is heavily enforced. You can buy a complete new handguard and mount a foregrip. But using it depends on your rank and your unit. Also in my eyes it is an investment that isn't worth the money.

We have a Post Sample G36 that should arrive in about 2 more weeks (waiting on a LE demo letter). We were told that these weapons are only as reliable as the ammo you feed it. We were also told that the weapons will crack from heat after constant full-auto mag dump after mag dump. Don't know how much truth there is too that statement but the guy gave us a heads-up before selling them.

I have fired my friends HK36K and found it VERY easy to shoot. I will post pics when our G36 arrives along with an HK MP5A2.

G36 has some problems that also passed on to the XM8

Magazine using the plastic/polymer construction had cracked feed lips from hard use, the tab on the magazine body that couple two magazies together makes deploying the magazine from pouch very difficult.

The polymer body on the G36 has a steel trunnion embedded inside, this is what the barrel are locked to. As the plastic and steel heat up at a drastically different rate, the cool down process are also different. sometimes it can cause a shift of the embedded trunnion inside the polymer receiver. the creats a different POI as to when you zeroed last. so you can go into a training, fire fight or some type of situations that you are firing a lot of full auto at a very rapid rate, this heats up the gun, of course every thing is fine during the operation, but once you return to camp and things cools down, next time you shoot, you will find that you might be shooting a little bit to the right or left... POI change are not a very high confidence builder.

As far as the receiver cracking, it has not been a major issue, the only case i have heard is a class 3 delaer with a machinegun rental business that pumped off a few beta mags with a suppressed G36k. extreme case at best. HK replace the receiver for the dealer, of course it took a big hassel to get it done.

the stock has problems cracking from banging it on the ground

the charging handle are not textured, it is made of steel that could be slipery. As you pull on the charging handle which can be flip either right or left in a wet enviroment, the charging handle can slip out of your hands.

the G36 integrated opic are a POS. usually you have two separate spring inside a scope for windage and elev adjustment, but with the G36 optic, you have one common spring that does it all. the red dot optic has a super small field of view and the brightness are not too bright for bright sunny days.

some of this problems also showed up ont he XM8 and also are some of the reasons that caused the XM8 to sink faster then an anchor.
