I would say that at least my friends and I who airsoft do it for fun and to imitate something that they usually have great respect for or interest in. Some are more excessive at replicating "loadouts" or "kit" but that is generally because of a fascination with and generally respect for that unit/branch. Personally I use a generic SWAT or PMC style loadout because I do not have the time, money, energy, or patience to track down all of the necessary gear components for a specific unit to be authentic. Additionally, I deeply feel that since i ususally do not have the chance to completely change out of gear... (usually wearing bdu pants and tshirt to and from) I do not want to get the praise and thanks for being a soldier etc. that I have not earned, as that is disrespectful to "steal" that from them.

Thanks. I can certainly respect doing it for fun. Where you lose me is when you get into the extreme cases of SEAL emulation. Certainly you don't have to go to that length to play AS. To me, if someone wanted to be a SEAL that bad, they would just go do the real thing. I mean wouldn't you rather be a SEAL than just pretend?

The point is, that I´m a modelbuilder, airsofter, and soldier. If someone would get my uniform, insignia and rank and play with his freinds german Airforce Drill Instructor or something else, I wouldnt care. If he comes with this dress to my base and tell me what to do, thats another thing.

When I´m a soldier and earn my rank, I know what I have done to that. Thats in my heart, and everyone else dont have this. Its my pride, that separates me from them, and everything else is nonsense.

And yes... I know all the airforcejokes. And yes, I know that we germans lost every war since we have our airforce.

So if someone wants to be a soldier, female, firefighter, latex-policeman or cowboy on weekend, let him.

I don't get it. SEALs only wear black buckles? If that is the case, we need to inform a lot of the real SEALs that they are not dressing like themselves.

Pardon my desire to understand what makes you guys tick, but I have a few more questions....

Is this JUST about appearance? I mean certainly SEALs don't use AS guns, so that is a giant hole in the costume right there. What good is looking like a SEAL if you shoot plastic BB's? I suggest getting a real gun that shoots real bullets, certainly that would be more legit right? I understand if you are doing force on force training, that is different, but real SEALs do both, so shouldn't you? They also don't use AS for force on force, they use Simunitions. If you can't get a hold of those, then I would say RAP4 would be more realistic right?

How deep in this thing are you guys? Do you guys base you self confidence on this? Do you think you are bad asses? Do you get to the point in your obsession that you feel like you are a SEAL or at least SEAL qualified? Do you think you could get through BUD/s? Do you guys train physically? Do you think you could pass the PST? Do you know how to swim? Every learned the CSS? Do you guys train tactics? Do you conduct realistic missions? Do you guys take time to learn the history and current operation of the Teams and the role they play in the WoT? Do you read books on the Teams, if so which ones? Do you plan on entering BUD/s? If so, when? If not, why? Do you have guys that are better 'SEALs' than others? Do you ever discuss the possibility of going into BUD/s?

    Let me know, thanks.

It would appear ealier runs of Eagle Industries MLCS pouches had black buckles (lot's of pics show this). Some people are ready to pay top dollars for them, up to 250$ for a single pouch while the commercial version is 40$!. Now I could somewhat get the "collectors" thing... But only if they weren't using it for AS.

As for airsofting itself it's been discussed zillions of time.

Me? Having fun with friends and I got turned down during medical evaluation because of bad knees. Now I could get a surgery and get in afterwards but it seems I'm too much of a bitch to loose 6month of my life in physiotherapy (wich prooves I'm perhaps not the best candidate for the CF to begin with)

Much respect brother, I can totally understand that. Sorry about your knees and all.

I am knew to this ongoing discussion, sorry for rehashing old topics, honestly just trying to understand. I think it comes from my desire to go the BUD/s route myself. It is a little late in the game for me, but is something I am considering very seriously. I just see this obsession to dress like SEALs and wonder why not just do the real thing. Certainly the desire is there. Anyway...

I've seen this **** on Ebay selling for that insane price.

Also I don't understand why people would pay 150 dollars (buy it now price) for a Marine helmet cover that accepts use of a Norotos NVG mount. LOL!!!

Yes, hypothetical. But We have some events, military courses and SF selections which are partly based on US experiences and are extremely gruelling too. I'm thinking about taking part in some in a future even if I won't be or serve as a soldier.

    Hubeertus...
Sounds like you have your head on straight. The initial "no's" in your response make me feel a lot better about what you are doing, although I wonder if some AS'ers don't take it to that level.

What type of physical training do you do? Is that common in the AS SEAL community? That ups the credibility quite a bit imo; adding a hell of a lot more 'reality' to the game. I think if anyone wants to pretend to be a SEAL they should at least be able to pass the PST. I am impressed that you have taken the time to learn the CSS as it is a odd stroke to learn; again that speaks volumes for you.

I also have to give your respect for the education side to your obsession. Reading books and learning all you can about these guys is very cool, and again gives you a lot more credibility in what you do.

You have a very good reason not to join BUD/s, but what about GROM? Those guys are essentially Polish SEALs right? You may even be working jointly with SEAL Teams in the future. How cool would that be?
