Where are you from? I did my service back in 99/00, the only time I have ever lived outside Australia. Yeah winters aren't as cold here!
What sort of unit were you in? Just curious because I see optical sights on the RK95, fancy goggles and more elaborate body armour - we never had that in our Jääkari/FRDF unit.

Kaartinjääkärirykmentti is more of an urban fighter from what I gather, meaning a more specialized unit than the rest of the infantry units, therefor they are granted some "special" equipment. Finland definetly needs a bigger defense budget. To hell with social healthcare and welfare!

Kaartin Jääkärirykmentti (Guard Jaeger Regiment is the english name IIRC) is also a bit like the Foreign Legion of the FDF, lots of naturalized immigrants, guys with dual citizenships etc. do their military service there. Must be interesting.
