    lunar eclipse info. request

    i am going to step out in about an hour or so to look at the lunar eclipse. since i dont want to go blind(er than i already am), if you folks can please clarify something for me?

    i know that a solar eclipse should not be seen directly........but i also heard the same thing about a lunar eclipse. in fact, the older people in my family back in india used to look at it indirectly, in mirrors, pools of water, etc.....

    i searcehd the internet, but found nothing, so if you guys havent already gone to sleep, lemme know please and thanks!

    I've never heard or read anything about not being able to look directly at a lunar eclipse. I've watched a few and haven't gone blind. Maybe I'll get lucky tonight though - at least if I were blind I wouldn't have to come in to work for a while.

    News just said 2037 is the best time to view it, if you're in sydney. The eclipse should start an hour before that.

    Don't worry about your eyes if you don't mind seeing red.

    Wouldn't that be like saying that it's harmful to look directly at the moon? I haven't had any problems with that yet.

    I forgot this was coming though. Did a little research.

    Where it will be visible from and when:

    Conversion of Universal Time to US times:

    So, if I'm reading this right, I think it will be visible along the West Coast US around 4am?

    @buckeye
    haha watch tomorrow turn out to be like "the day of the triffids"

    @scrybe
    well that GIF says the west coast doesnt really fall anywhere btwn p1 and p4, but since p4 is the closest, 13:22 UT = 5:22 pacific time.
    so yeah, i guess btwn 4 and 5 is a good time to keep a watch out.

    now if only i had a timelapse camera....

    Are you going to be mast***ting while watching it? if so this may affect your eyesight although if it is only one eclipse you should be ok!

    To be serious you will have no problems whatsoever looking directly at a lunar eclipse with the naked eye - enjoy.

    Masturbating will blind you. Watching a lunar-eclipse wont.

    I could see it pretty well a while ago, but there is a big **** off cloud in front of it now and I can only see a part of the red moon faintly though it.
