    In English is a bit difficult. Basically we say that someone is a War Machine when he is very god soldier, a true warrior. He was the fittest guy in my recruit (Formação Geral Comum), is father was a Comando, so it’s a family trade.

    The tests of admission to the Pathfinder Course

    After a set of medical tests, they made the physical tests. Its two days of tests where it intends to prove the physical and psychological resistance of the Para that want to joint this prestige elite unit.

    First day in the morning

    Test nº 1 - Race of 90 meters with bag of 50 kg
    Uniform: Camo and boots.
    Description: Leaving of the position of standing next to the bag, and to the whistle it places the bag in the back and initiates a race of 90 meters.
    Time limit: 30 seconds
    Allowed attempts: 1 (one)



    Test nº 2 - Race of 1500
    Uniform: Boots, Camo, backpack with 10 kg of weight and weapon.
    Time limit: 7 minutes and 30 seconds
    Allowed attempts: 1 (one)



    Test nº 3 - Race of 8000 meters
    Uniform: Boots, Camo, backpack with 10 kg and weapon.
    Time limit: 50 minutes
    Allowed attempts: 1 (one)



    First day in the afternoon

    Test nº 4 - Ascent to the rope
    Uniform: Boots, Camo, backpack with 10 kg, Weapon and helmet.
    Description: To the voice, it initiates the ascent in the rope using any technique to the choice. When arriving at the top of the rope it informs the controller who will give order to go down.
    Time limit: Without time to go up the 7 (seven) meters of rope
    Allowed attempts: 2 (two)



    Test nº 5 – Swimming tests
    Uniform: Camo
    Description: To execute the following tests successfully:
    1st - Leaving of the position of foot in the swimming pool and to the voice of the controller dives and covers in the distance 15m. The test will have to be executed with the candidate submerged.
    Time limit: Without limitation
    Allowed attempts: 2 (two)
    2ª – Leaving in the position of standing in the swimming pool and to the voice of the controller swim 50 meters.
    Time limit: Without limitation
    Allowed attempts: 1 (one)



    Second day in the morning

    Test nº 6 - Race of 30000 meters
    Uniform: Boots, Camo, backpack with 10kg and weapon.
    Time limit: 4 hours
    Allowed attempts: 1 (one)



    If the candidate passes these tests, he will start the Pathfinder Course in the next day.

    According to JDW, the Portugese army will receive 37 surplus Leopard 2A6 from the Netherlands to replace the M60A3. Deliveries should start next year.

    Steyr-Daimler-Puch delivered six of them that were not accepted by the army because of an array of problems (engine, steering, gear box, systems like TDS and periscopes that should be instaled and weren't). Now those vehicles are back to the factory to be fixed and they should be ok in 2 weeks.
    Note that the ones that were rejected were all built in Austria
