    Default REQ: African militaries

    G'day fellas,

It seems a rarity to find any pictures of African troops. Wondering if anyone has pics of African union soldiers or rebels stowed away they wouldn't mind sharing?

This is a picture of soldiers from the Rwandan Patriotic Front. Although it is 10 years old, and their uniform has changed slightly.
In my opinion they are one of the best trained, led and disciplined forces in Africa.
For evidence check out the war in the Congo (1998-2002), when they took on troops from Zimbabwe, Angola, Congo, Namibia, Sudan and Chad. Major general Paul Kagame, the man behind the movement is also seen as having a very good grasp of tactics and strategy. See what Canadian UN commander, General Romeo Dallaire said about him in 'Shaking Hands with the Devil'. He witnessed their conquest of Rwanda and the battle for Kigali in 1994.

The gap between the 1st and 2nd roadwheels and the lack of a fume extractor makes it a T-54/T-55 series. The only one I know with ERA is the T-55MV series (T-55MV, T-55MV-1, and both these versions based on the T-55A, the T-55AMV and T-55AMV-1).

It is also quite plausible that Uganda uses the T-55MV as it has many of its tanks from the Ukraine, Belarus and Bulgaria, including the T-55AM-2 (the picture on the left).

Great thread; I find these lessor-known militaries extremely interesting!
