    Default New acquisitions of Indian Military!

    To start with first the Indian Army. Recent orders are modest in nature. The acquisitions are in line with the actual requirement of the army.

    India bought 310 T-90s. Recently another 330 were ordered by the army. Also the Indian Ordnance Factories Board (OFB) got order to produce another 1000. So in total the numbers would be close to 1700 by 2020.

    Arjun Tank- Army ordered 124 tanks. Fresh trials will take place next month. Further orders are awaited.

    Tunguska M1 Air defence system. Indian operates close to 50 of this system and further orders are placed.

    Smerch and Pinaka MBRLs - India ordered around 38 smerch systems. Smerch has a range of 60-90 Kms. Pinaka developed by DRDO is awaiting official induction in to the army. It has a range of 40km.

    AN-TPQ 37- India purchased 12 weapon locating radars. This radar can detect and track incoming artillery and rocket fire to determine the point of origin for counterbattery fire.

    Nice photos thanks. IS ^^^this the Arjun Tank?? any info on capabilities etc.?

    Indian Army ordered 197 AS 550 Fennec helicopters. It will replace the chetaks and cheetahs of Indian army.

    Indian Army operates 32 Dhruv (HAL) helicopters and fresh orders are on for further 40.

    Heron UAV - The army operates 50 of this system. Further orders are on.

    Searcher 2 UAV- The Indian army operates over 100 of this system

    Nishant UAV - Produced by DRDO. Army has inducted few of these systems. Further orders are on.

    Sypder Air defence system- 18 systems are ordered by Indian Army

    Brahmos Cruise Missile- Developed jointly by Russia and India is now inducted in to the army.

    Mine protected vehicle developed by OFB India.

    Battlefield radar system developed by Mahindra for Indian army.

    Rakshak armoured jeep of the Indian army is already put in to action in Kashmir.

    Striker attack jeep for the para commandos.

    Israeli Soltam upgraded 180 guns from 130mm standard to 155mm standard.

    DRDO developed battlefield survelliance radars and troop carriers for the army.

    is that Striker attack jeep based off the Mahindra frame or the Gypsy frame? looks like a Gypsy body, but a Mahinda grill

    Striker is based on Mahindra bolero.

    Zittara -Indian OFB version of the tavor assault rifle.

    Tavor- The israeli assault rifle. Indian army ordered around 3000 for special operations.

    INSAS- INSAS is now mass produced in OFB factories. Unspecified number of INSAS are ordered by the Indian army.

    Abhay (IFV) - Infantry fighting vehicle, under development by DRDO

    SATHI- Situational Awareness and Tactical Handheld Information - (SATHI).
    The world's first integrated battle computer, SATHI works on the open source Linux platform; customised Geographical Information System (GIS); internal radio modem; encrypted software and has powerful batteries and capabilities to send text messages. SATHI sends its position through radio frequency on a constant basis, while the encrypted software has a mechanism to go blank if the device falls into hands of the enemy.

    C 130 J - India ordered 6 C 130 J for special operations.

    Indian army is developing armoured vehicles for counter insurgency operations. Two vehicles named Hunky and Tuffy are under development.

    Attack version of Dhruv helicpoter (HAL).

    India is importing night vision equipments for counter insurgency from Israel.

    Laser dazzler developed by DRDO.

    The hand-held and weapon-mounted versions of the laser dazzler have a maximum range of 50 meters and 500 meters respectively. Both variants are completely non-lethal directed-energy weapons employing intense visible light and produce randomly a flickering green laser output that is sufficient to cause temporary blindness or disorientation.

    Prithvi missile system. The army version liquid fuel has a range of 150kms having a maximum warhead mounting capability of 1000 kg.

    Agni 1 has a range of 700kms - 800 kms.

    Looks like it has a Bofors 40mm gun, just like the swedish CV9040. How come India chose to use this gun? Did they also have a bunch of 40mm guns lying around?

    Hope they chooses it, so they can buy ammo from Bofors

    Very impressive video!

    India has about 800 - 1.000 L/70 guns for air defence. (plus many more L/60 guns) A few years ago most Super Fledermaus fire control systems have been replaced by the Flycatcher Mk.2 FCS.

    Agni 2 and Agni 3. Agni 2 has a range of 1500-2500kms while agni 3 has a range of 3000-3500kms.
