I just wanted to ask if anyone notices or knows of any difference in fuel from Shell, BP, Exxon, etc. Is one any better than the other.
I usually go to Shell.
It is possible that the station has trash or condensation issues. Just get fuel somewhere else and if you have no more issues then it could have been the gas. Some owners purchase gas on bulk during lower priced times and store it in tanker trucks. This is illegal but I know of several local stores owned by the same family from India that did just that. They got caught in the end though. Fuel in my area is distributed from two local storage points along the pipeline from Louisiana. The different brands add their mix of additives and the required additives all fuel gets. This is why some stores can be cheaper as well because they do not use the high end detergents and oxidation catalysts. These cheaper fuels only have the minimum additives required by the Feds. Methanol is added in this way because it can not be transported by the current pipeline infrastructure. Something else that makes this switch grass crap of Bush's seem retarded.
Anyway I am rambling, if it does it again with a different brand fuel. Get the codes checked again and let me know.

Amoco is all I want to use but sometimes I use BP/Conoco. These have the best record of low carbon deposits. My truck has over 270,000 miles and no carbon build up. I know cause I have a fiber optic borescope that allows me to look inside the engine. These two brands also have the most power in my boat.
i might need to have my engine borescoped
Thanks shocker.
I don't know if we've got any Amoco. Aren't they partnered with BP, though?
Pretty much all Shell, BP, Exxon, and the occasional Mapco around here.
Edit: Just checked. 0 Amoco in Nashville. 29 in Memphis.
The way it works in our area is it is really all the same gas. It is what they add at the storage place. I am sure you have one somewhere around there with the tanks. See my earlier post.

So if I use the BP in town it is actually superior quality, due to additives. So it is then worth paying the extra 2 cents per gallon.
Yes and no. Like those folks that got busted holding gas in tankers. Gas does loose it's energy storage capability and flammability (octane rating) if it is stored without a stabilizer. BP is good gas though, I pay a penny or so more for my Amoco gas. Conoco is good as well, same gas mix.
i get all my gas from aafes , but i have no clue who they get their gas from
Well my 550euro giloppe (94 Opel Astra) has become uneconomic to repair. Cam gasket went which lead to Valve head gasket going which lead to Cylinder head gasket going all due to faulty thermostat. Not bad value considering its done 40,000 miles in just over two years.
If I have time next weekend, I might replace the gaskets and sell off for 550 euro. Might help pay the Insurance on hopefully my first half way decent car, a 95 Hilux Surf SSR-X
Update on my little Nissan problem (it's back a couple pages) with the fluctauting RPM's and overall sh!tty running. It was indeed the Cat that was clogged. Finally got the b!tch broken off after about a week's worth of soaking in PB blaster. The damn Cat was about 150 bucks and the O2 sensor in it was about 115 bucks. I'm pretty much busted now, if anything else happens to this car I'm gonna take it out to the woods, douse it in gas and burn the bastard while simultaniously urinating on it. Thnx for all your help Shocker, you're a friggn lifesaver dude.
No problem, just doing my part for MP.net.
