I have a 05 tauraus, but from what I heard from friends...

Taurus has been known to do that, something with the transmission that Ford puts in it. It is known to pop out of gear when it gets older. I will let some one more knowledgeable explain it though...

Taurus with transmission problems will require a new tranny or a new car. Early Taurus was known for repeated transmission failures. The line pressure is to low due to worn pump, old seals and orings. This causes the transmission to slip, clutch pack engagement failure. Low fluid to the sprag clutch assm causes the lockers to not fully engage and will make it fell like it is jumping to neutral until you shift to another gear and back. I recommend getting another vehicle.

Shocker, I have a few questions about the new VW TDI. I am looking at getting one to replace my taurus, and hopefully help with the burgeoning gas prices. Any news on the new '09 jetta or passat? Also, how reliable are those cars. I am also possibly looking into one of the newer chargers, due to me being able to get a good discount. So if you were going to buy the car which one would you choose? I need one with good gas mileage most importantly, but other factors are considered.

    mp.net safety bulletin 200806050001

Recently, one of our members sustained serious injuries while performing routine automotive maintenance procedures.

    Summary:
While attaching a can of refrigerant to the low-pressure side of Air Conditioning compressor, liquid R-134a sprayed directly into his eyes.

    Incident Detail:
A loose fitting on the nozzle of the Chinese-made canister of "Happy Yes Spring Now for Car R-134a Refrigerant" allowed copious amounts of tetrafluoroethane to flow into the member's eyes causing temporary blindness and frostbite.

Nearly half of the can emptied into his eye sockets before he reacted due to the fact that he evidently believed the cooling sensation he felt was due to the radiator fan blowing pleasantly on his face. In fact, it was the tetrafluoroethane boiling off of his eyeballs, causing their temperature to drop precipitously. In fact they eventually froze solid, and the only reason he was able to continue to blink, was due to the system lubricant which was also present in that particular brand of refrigerant.

He complained that "things got real fuzzy, like on the TV when they show how a zombie sees things", and it wasn't until his wife ran screaming from the garage that he realized what had happened.

    Proper Procedure
Though the victim stated that his frozen eyes provided a welcome cooling effect in the summer heat, best practice calls for all fittings and connections to be thoroughly checked, and most importantly for the wearing of safety goggles during this procedure.

I heard that, the transmission front pump in my truck is making some noise and has slipped pulling the boat. I am just gonna rebuild mine, it is a 4L80E very tough. The thing is it is my only transportation right now.

Good luck finding a used one, if you are going to drive it have it rebuilt or a remanufactured one put in. That way it will have a warranty. They are not that hard to do with a lift and tools. I put a reman in a 2002 Cadillac Deville a week or so ago, it took me 10hours.

2-sheds, I hooked my gauges up once to a 80's Ford E350 van. It was not cooling but the compressor was running. I hooked up the gauges and the low side was pulling vacuum(bad cycling switch) so I decided to hook up the high side to see the pressure and get an idea of what exactly was going on. I usually do not hook up the high side unless diagnosing compressor issues or system restrictions. Any way I revved up the engine from under the hood you know. Then suddenly the high side pegged out and the line blew where I had damaged it on a belt pulley once. It sprayed in my face and ear, all that nasty oil from a stopped up POS Ford AC. That slimy greenish yellow crap all filled with that nasty dye, muck, stuff from the compressor and dryer. It stained my face for days, little dots and a big splotch on my cheek. It caused acne for a week or so and my right cheek had freezer burn . My ear though was surprisingly ok.

I was green then, I know to check that switch now.

Well, we may just have to settle with a used one. Basically it depends on how much a Rebuilt/Remanufactured one goes for. We're kinda tight on cash right now so... that doesn't help.

If anything I'll just end up taking the Explorer as my own... or learning how to drive stick so I can drive mom's Focus SVT.
