Wotsnext, so far I've not found any good info on the problem, despite checking a bunch of Nissan Silvia/240sx/Skyline forums.

Slave is GTG. Rod is dandy. Rod doesn't get enough pressure to push it back into position.

It sounds a right bastard! The only other thing I can think of is to slacken off the pins that mount the slave to the casing...see if that improves it any, the slave needs a nice square push on the arm, but don't forget to retighten the pins, I'm no expert, but its worth a try.

Reckon the clutch itself is bad huh. This may be on of those problems somebody needs to have hands on to figure out. When you bled it did the master seem to give good pressure? There is nothing special about a hydraulic clutch, most all of them are basically the same. If it be a Honda, Nissan or even a Chevrolet. Does the clutch fork even move? If it is moving and the pressure plate does not push the fork back your problem is the clutch, throw out bearing binding on the input shaft collar or your pressure plate has broken.

Yup, that's the problem. It BARELY pushes it back.

Tearing this down might allow me to put in a new clutch anywho. Gotta get a new shifter and whatnot to tighten things up as well. If only I had the $$$.

I hear ya, good luck with it. Too bad it is not like the old Datsun's. You could change the clutch on those without pulling the tranny. Why dumb ass engineers forgot about that nifty idea I have no clue.

    How'd that work?

I wish I could find one for a good price in good condition. I would love an old 280 or one of the turbocharged models.

Hey guys, recently my car started making a weird noise everytime I do turn at a reasonable speed, it's not a high pitch sound, it's more like If I had bald tires, which I don't, any guess what it could be ?

    Power Steering leak most likely.

Good luck finding a used one, if you are going to drive it have it rebuilt or a remanufactured one put in. That way it will have a warranty. They are not that hard to do with a lift and tools. I put a reman in a 2002 Cadillac Deville a week or so ago, it took me 10hours.

Well it looks like we're going to rebuild it.

Part of the bellhousing came off and back out the tranny bolts. Support engine on hanger, remove the rear mount, slide transmission back enough to get the clutch disk out. The pressure plate and t-bearing required an r&r tranny.

Is it a whining noise or a roar? Does it roar like it comes from one side when you load the weight on one side by turning? That would be a wheel bearing maybe, if it whines even turning sitting still PS fluid is low or the pump is bad. Noises are hard to pinpoint here cause I can't hear it.

Well itīs more like a soft sound kinda like your stepping on eggs or something, you might be on to something with the weight thing, I haven't used it since it happened tho, don't want to get stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Is the car front-wheel drive? It could have stuffed CV joints. Or maybe something in the front suspension/steering is rubbing on the tyres? A loose mudflap or something?

For the last week and a half while driving I noticed that as my car shifted gears there was a loud thump right after it upshifted, but more noticeably when it downshifted. Sounded like it was coming from the middle to rear of the car. I suspected it was some loose u-joint or something. Today, while trying to pass another vehicle, I accelerated and heard the loud thump again, this time really loud. Unfortunately, now everytime I hit the accelerator while it's in drive there is a very loud, high pitch winding sound coming from under the car. No sound when I hit the accelerator while it is in Park. The car does accelerate, but I did not want to go faster than 10 mph after hearing that noise. The sound correlates to the rpm's in the engine while it's in drive. I plan on taking it to a mechanic tomorrow, but as I know nothing about these matters and I don't want the mechanic taking me for a ride, I thought I'd get some input here as to what the problem(s) may be. I've maintained the van at all service intervals. Towed one ATV once about 20,000 miles ago. The only problem I've ever had was when it was missing shifts at about 20,000 miles. The dealer fixed that. I was told these transmissions are weak but I'm really hoping that isn't the problem. Does anybody have any ideas before I go to the mechanic? Thanks.

The egg shell noise could be a cv joint. I have heard it described as such. With that description he should look in the areas you mentioned.

Sounds like the transmission. Could be something broke, sun gears, clutch drum,ect... and caused a loss of pump pressure. When the circuit applies pressure to that part it loses pressure and makes the pump whine. Either way I am about 90% sure the transmission has let go. There is a technical service bulletin on this issue I think. Read through the transmission ones to see if it describes your issue. http://www.chevroletforum.com/recall...r_2002/TSB.htm
