Can anyone tell me where I can find an appraiser and/or buyer for some half dozen vintage Remington Gun Barrels and bolts?
This is part of an estate sale. They are vintage military. The late owner was a WWII decorated US Navy Dive Bomber.Mostly flew the SB2C. (The second Yorktown), and gun enthusiast. He knew quality in guns, so I am wondering about these. The barrels are still in the original mailing box from the 1960's when they were purchased from an Army surplus supply source, the name and address of which I don't have in front of me right now, but can get. My guess is that they are WWII vintage. They have a small logo with a flame and the initials "RA" I think that stands for "Remington Arms". Several are still in Cosmoline. The barrels are around 2.5 feet long and threaded at the base. They have the front sight already mounted. Have a sort of mass produced machinist/machinery grain horizontally or along the whole length.
It seems like they might be of some value to a collector and would be a shame to discard. I can also get pics. I,m asking around the internet. Thanks.
Is this M16 style hardware? If so you might have better luck over at ...ar15... (you can fill in the periods) Not sure of the policy regarding linking to other forums etc. They will have alot of people in the know, go to the retro part of the discussion forums.
Still in the box with the original purchase order from Rock Island Arsenal Depot Activity, Rock Island, Illinois. Dated Feb. 19, 1964.
There are five barrels. Three are still in Cosmoline. Four of them have sights. One of the Barrels has a tag that says: 30-06-NEW R.I.-6-44. So it looks like four of them are 30-06 barrels. All 24" long. RI must stand for Rock Island. 6-44 must be the date of the barrels.
THe fifth has no sight and says S A with the flame logo underneath then 12-18 underneath that. IT is 22.5" long.
In addition two green firing pins, and three bolts. But they might have been for a different gun or purchased at another time. Only the barrels are on the purchase order. I wish I could get the damn pics uploaded. But it says my pics are too large to post on this forum. If I can I'll try to get someone to help me maybe make them smaller so that they will fit. If so I can try the other forum mentioned as well. Thanks.
If you want to resize them, you could use MS Paint, if you have Windows OS. Open them up, press CTRL + W, and resize to whatever percent, such as 30% in the first two boxes. THat would bring it down to 30% of the original size.
