Unless I know for sure, most of the time I'm just going by the captions. The group you posted were all from an article on the FFL out of a magazine and the last few before your post I seen before and just thought they were FFL. Sorry for any mistakes but it's not the first time and if you know more about the pics feel free to add corrections anytime.
BTW a couple posts back, post no. 193, the top 2 are not FFL for sure, I meant the the French FFL at Dien Bien Phu tiltle for the pics below, which again I apologize if they are not.
Magazine came out around 1967, you'll see LRRPs Rangers some Seals and some SOG guys with a few, But the pouches wernt really standardized till around late 1972-73, but never made it to Vietnam. There is one photo of a guy with an early M-16A1 pouch for the 30 in 1972, it had the same style grenade straps as the shorty nylon, but with plastic snaps.
The ALICE M-16 pouch arrived in Vietnam with the USMC as they evaced the embassy and only then, you'll really never ever see another photo of anyone with the 30 round pouch in Nam,
Once again POUCH Not 30 round Magazine sorry for the blunder guys!!!

Thats because they are members of SCU Special Commando Unit, or SOG. Sog was the only unit in Nam to actually be issued the CAR-15. Thats why theyve got the high speed gear.
Also this was the time the Americans were standing down, and allowing the Indigs or Vietnamese to run missions solo, without an American team member. But yea, SOG had all the high speed gear as well as its own supply system and a guy named Ben Baker, making all kinds of super cool gear for em!!
In one of the photos one of the Asians is wearing a set of NVA, actually produced on Okinawa for SOG as well as pith helmets, canteens, boots, and chest rigs.
they were bad ass!!!

the final american is (then 1st LT) Ken Bowra the asian in the back row with the cut down boonie was his interpreter Bong, who was later captured and executed by the commies.
This is 1971 and they are preparing for a mission into Laos.
You dont see alot of SOG guys wearing the ERDLs, it was really worn around the camps and on missions during like the last 5 minutes of American involvement.
