On many pics, I can notice that ARVN soldiers were equiped with the M1 carabines as main weapon, when did the ARVN received the M16's in large quantities?

I think the most of them with the so called "Vietnamisation" of the war around 1969-71.

Those troops are CIDG, not ARVN.
I worked with them fom July, '68 to March 70.

We were very far down the food chain in regards to equipment
It was about mid 69 before we got M16s.
Regular ARVN units got them sooner.
The vast majority of carbines in RVN were M2's.

While it is true that SF mainly worked with CIDG in Viet Nam, the caption could be correct. SFC Doney was with B-52 'Project Delta', and their modus operandi normaly included recon teams which were comprised of 2 Americans and 4 ARVN SF.

Not to argue a point, but just my observation.
I Don't think LL's or even CIDG in the projects would have settled for a carbine.
They had high priority on gear and support.
    Interesting picture.

We got carbines entering country in '68, but that was for the initial training phase.

I got a M16 when I got to my A Camp, but carried a carbine until the troops got 16s.
It was good for counterpart relations which could sometimes decide your fate.

Looks like guys from Golf platoon, one of 3 SEAL platoons on Sea Float 1970. I might actually know the 2 guys standing if they are who I think they are.

I borrowed these pictures from Capt. Selders site on Webshots. He was camp commander at A-242 Dak Pek after I left country end of Oct., 1968... our tours at Dak Pek may have overlapped briefly, I don't really rememberr. To review his on-line albums, see: http://community.webshots.com/user/jselders3

    Capt. Jim Selders

SSgt Joe Howard… I served with Joe, went on two or three missions with him. He extended, stayed in Vietnam for about 2 years. I previously posted some pictures of him about page 22.
