A lot of photos about legion etrangere here (Indochina, Algeria etc.)
Sorry for the thread hijack, just figured some folks here would find this interesting.
Over the past weekend I attended the Save The Montagnard People picnic (www.Montagnards.org) in North Carolina and had the pleasure of hanging out Y'Tlur Eban (goes by Thomas here in the US) I had met Thomas before this past weekend and he showed me his photo in NG. Thomas is the guy with his hand to his face.
My girlfriend and I were honored to receive bracelets from Thomas, drink some Numpai that he made and we both purchased some items that his wife wove (tribal shirt for me, shoulder bag for her)
Thomas ended up working as an interpreter for a few different camps and at least one Mike Force. This guy is a humble old warrior and it is an honor to call him a friend.
Here are some photos of this weekend:
Thomas holding a photo of himself and one of his camp commanders - this was taken during his airborne training.
Thomas, his wife and me.

Very cool!! I love to have that shirt, bet you're proud to wear it.
There was a little cerimony here in Greer, S.C. with the local Biet Dong Quan vets also.
Oh yeah. It has the exact same markings that the one Captain Gillespie is wearing. It is my understanding that Y'Tlur's wife was at Buon Bieng during the FULRO uprising, so it figures that the markings are the same. It took her well over a month to weave the shirt and the quality is amazing.
Y'Tlur made the bracelets by hand and right now it's a toss up which item (shirt or bracelet) would slide into the number one slot as most prized possession.
This weekend was great, I also met the nurse that gave a friend the bracelet he still wears today. Here is a photo of him at Duc Co. He was camp commander at both Duc Lap and Duc Co:

French troops in Nam.
French FFL at Dien Bien Phu

What makes you think all French units at Dien Bien Phu were from the Foreign Legion? Marcel Bigeard, in the third photo, commanded 6 BPC- a colonial parachute battalion, made up, besides the Vietnamese element common to almost all units in the expeditionary corps by this stage, of Frenchmen. One of the officers in the colour plate is the commander of a Vietnamese parachute battalion. I would hazard a guess that many of the other photos you have posted (which are excellent by they way) are not of Legion units. Besides French (Colonial or Metropolitan) units, there were also Algerian, Moroccan, Tunisian, Senegalese and of course (the largest contingent) Vietnamese in the expeditionary corps.
