Am I the only one that thinks the color photo in the Soldier of Fortune article above is from after 2001, and not a Viet Nam era photograph?
Or, am I just confused by the layout?

Yeah, you're right, but as the caption states, it's Tom Keith's (the SEAL featured in the article) security team working for Special Operations Consultants.

BTW: Welcome to the forum and thanks for providing the caption to your photo!

X2 and please post more pics if you may have any... As far as your Maggie pic, I did come accross it a couple times. I think either some reanactor site and another site I think called U.S. military forum or something... That's where I also seen a few pics that were taken from this thread [*******#2b547e]Vietnam war era pics of special units, LRRPS, MACV SOG,AATV,SEALS,FFL,GREEN BERETS... Some I personally scanned and posted.

No, you are right. The lead photo is obviously of one of the security contractors operating in Afghanistan or Iraq after 9/11. Business is (or was) booming and lots of the old guys along with cheaper Gurkhas, South Africans, Serbs...were/are involved; Blackwater, Dyncorps and a dozen other companies were/are fielding capable units, mostly for physical security of some sort or another. Want to have another go?

    Default SSG Lonnie Holmes, SF

    http://www.specialforces78.com/members/lholmes/photos1.html

Last night, Dr. Lonnie (Louis) Holmes, formerly a SSG, SF medic ( two tours Vn, tour in Thailand), called my brother after 40 years. I sent him an email and went to his web site. He has many pictures posted, including these. I'm taking the liberty of posting some of his pictures here. The first is of Lonnie in Kontum with... ahem... moi (though he mistakenly captions it as being my twin brother...)

In this picture, I was passing through Kontum (July-68), when I ran into Lonnie. He was a medic and was obsessively attuned to all the bad stuff you could come down with. He took one look at me and put me in the hospital for 5 days... it turned out to be severe amoebic dysentery, not malaria.

I’m taking the liberty of posting some of the pictures Lonnnie has on his web site. These are from A-251 Plei Djereng which was an SF camp due west on Kontum, south of Ben Het at the southern end of “rocket ridge” which overlooked the DakTo-Kontum-Pleiku Dak Poko river valley plain.

The B-23 Kontum Mike Force was formed after TET, early in 1968. They initially had two companies, later expanded to four (I think). Lonnie went to the MikeForce from Plei Djereng (A-251) supposedly because he was deemed to be getting too involved with the FULRO boys at Plei Djereng...(FULRO was the Montagnard independence organization).

Note the scarves being worn by mike force company. In SF, in general we all had BIG scarfs that we wore into the field... very useful pieces of cloth ... mine was usually black. But the mike force and other special op companies usually each had a special color identfying each company. The idea was to look like a boy scout troop.

Default Mad Dog Shriver "SOG's Deadliest Operator" by J. Plaster

Here's a good article by the great Maor John L. Plaster from his book - SOG: The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam.
