Late start! Not my fault Mr Jones, not my fault! Let's get it started!

An early morning car bomb attack killed one of Lebanon's top military generals, Brig. Gen. Francois al-Hajj, as he drove through an eastern suburb of Beirut. General Hajj was a top contender to succeed Gen. Michel Suleiman, the army chief who is poised to become the country's next president. He was also the operational commander in last summer's battle against Islamic militants holed up in a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon.

Intense fighting between the Congolese Army and soldiers loyal to the rebel Tutsi general, Laurent Nkunda, in the east of Congo has resulted in hundreds of thousands of Congolese fleeing their villages in the past year to avoid the conflict. People who left the town of Sake rested along the road as they made their way toward camps for displaced people and toward Goma.
